YESTERDAY’S NEWSPAPER?

You know the one! The one nobody ever goes back to re-read.

On October 8th, on our Google blogspot website, we showed 11 photos of Canada Geese migrating..

Yesterday we snapped the below photos and added them to the October 8th Post.

The Canada Geese are gone South.

YESTERDAY’S NEWSPAPER?

I strive to maintain “credibility” here on dotnet.

Our credibility is what this Post is about.

On October the 14th, we published the below Post. You don’ t really need to re-read it because we explain our error below.

I wonder what happens to the leaves after they leave your area?

Ah Hah.. Gullible, we are going to ask The Shadow! When the opportunity presents itself, we also will inquire about the end destination of the leaves. Smiles .. Cap and Patti

Yesterday, Sunday October the 13th, at a meeting, I asked a close friend who works for the City of Anchorage as a driver (trucks, snow plows, etc) Gullible’s question.

Here is your answer Gullible.

There is no one answer Gullible because..  It all depends on whose truck is being used: Is it a City of Anchorage (CofA) truck or is it owned by a private contractor hired by the CofA.

IF the truck is a CofA vehicle, the leaves may go to the CofA trash landfill or some alternate CofA site. He said they have a number of other sites.

IF the truck is owned and operated by a CofA subcontractor, that firm decides where the leaves will go.

It was nice to learn that many, maybe most in fact, of the leaf removal subcontractors, turn the ground up leaves, grass clippings, straw, bark chips, and similar organic materials into an organic mulch which they then sell at a profit in the commercial market.

There you have your answer Gullible.

Now The Rest Of This Story.

Yesterday the leaf removal team again visited our area.

I went out to the truck and asked the driver.. “Where do you take the leaves?”

As I expected he replied “it depends”.

Then I specifically asked him.. “Are the leaves used for mulch?”

“No!” he emphatically replied.. “The City of Anchorage Ordinances, due to the odor, forbid using the leaves as a source of mulch!”

I went back and added the below words to our Google blogspot Post dated..

OCT 4, 24 ( 2 / 2 ) .. AUTUMN IN ANCHORAGE 2024

Where are the leaves taken once they are loaded into the truck?

It depends 100% upon who owns the truck. The City of Anchorage (CofA) or a private contractor hired by the CofA. The CofA work crews dispose of them in city owned dump sites, from ordinary sanitary land fill areas to other city owned dumps.

The private contractors are free to dispose of the leaves as they wish provided they do not break CofA Ordinances governing dumps.

Due to CofA Ordinances, the leaves are not used for mulch because of the odor that would arise therefrom.

Credibility! I went back and corrected our original statement because it was in error. My friend, the CofA truck driver, was incorrect saying sometimes the leaves are used for commercial mulch.

Was this Post worth the several hours it has taken me?

Who on earth cares? Patti and I care! In our minds, YES it was worth the time it took!

And maybe, just maybe, we hope that someone will get some pleasure out of the above Post.

No. As we just now spoke over the phone in person, we neither pre-approve or deny comments UNLESS the comment contains a link or photo. We are not willing to risk someone inserting a questionable link or photo and we do not have the time to be screening each and every comment.
