NOV 7, 24 ( 2 / 2 ) .. MELANCHOLY.. PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON..

In yesterday’s Post, I wrote about the melancholy that I was feeling about Halloween last week.

I then asked myself the Rhetorical question: “Will this be Ginger’s last Halloween?” I concluded the Post by stating.. This could well be our last Halloween! Could that be the source of this melancholy?

Gullible commented:  Is your melancholy actually Sugar Blues? Fess up. How many candy bars did you eat?

My reply (in part) to Gullible: Gullible the melancholy is not physical in nature, it is metaphysical. Metaphysics is the branch of philosophy that examines the basic structure of reality. Puff The Magic Dragon is about growing older and is also about the “loss of innocence in children”.

Kathleen texted:

Hi Cap & Patti. How astute to notice that it might be her last Halloween trick-or-treating. It is sad when we leave those things behind. Normally everyone’s focused on what’s ahead and we don’t take the time to think about what we’ve left behind. I can think of a lot of things I’ve done where I wish I had known it was my last time. It could have treasured it more. So I truly understand the melancholy. Glad you’re over it. Kathleen

Actually this (melancholy) began for me, not on Halloween evening, but this past August the 1st, 2024, with the below two photos that Tom Tiger sent me taken with his grandson.

Oh My.. Oh My.. Tom.. Sunrise.. Sunset.. Swiftly Flow The Days.. Fiddler on the Roof.

Last August 1st, when I published this pair of photos, I thought (with some melancholy) the little boy above, who is now as tall as Tom, is gone forever!

Kathleen’s above words are so true. It is sad when we leave those things behind. Normally everyone’s focused on what’s ahead and we don’t take the time to think about what we’ve left behind. I can think of a lot of things I’ve done where I wish I had known it was my last time. I could have treasured it more.

This is what we want our website to be about. Capturing these moments, holding them close to our hearts.

Your writings give us pause, time to reflect on the moment and make it last a little longer. Whenever I see people filming everything on their camera, presumably with the idea to share it with others or see it later, I think how they’re missing the moments. They’re not experiencing what’s going on, they’re trying to capture it. I thought about that over the years and there have been times when I have consciously not picked up a camera or my phone so that I could savor the moment, see what is in front of me, be present. I think that’s one of the reasons I enjoy what you share. I pause and I think; sometimes I picture it in my mind. I always enjoyed your writings while you were traveling because you were so detailed that I frequently felt like I was there capturing the moment with you. So thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.

Thanks so very much Kathleen for all of your kind and insightful words, not only for this comment, but on the text you sent that I used to write this Post. Smiling .. Cap and Patti

So-called Sugar Blues is condition linked to depression , and caused by eating too much sugar.

So, how many leftover candy bars did you eat?

Gullible we did NOT pig out nor overeat any of our Halloween candy. As of today, Thursday the 7th, there is still some at our door. This melancholy began with seeing Tom and his grandson in our Post last August the 1st and how the years have passed! It had absolutely nothing to do with sugar blues! Smiling.. Cap and Patti

When I read your posts I am in the moment. You take me right there with you. Thank you for lots of great experiences. You share deep thoughts, feelings and lots of useful information too.
Right now for me living in the moment is where it’s at.
Have a joyful and peaceful day.
You’ll hear more from me soon.

Thanks so very much Kit for your comment. Sometimes it IS hard, very challenging to be in, and stay in, THE MOMENT. This is one of the roots of addiction Kit. People use substances to “change how they feel”. Then, for some, but not all, a physical addiction overtakes them that demands more for the sake of more. Thanks again for your kind words Kit. I don’t know about our other neighbors Gullible as to whether or not they put out Halloween candy. Patti and I are close to her Mom so we know the exact candy (Kit Kats) she likes and she knows that, at our front door, there will be Halloween treats. This year she had another friend with her. Today the kids seem to go to large gatherings to celebrate Halloween. Cap and Patti

TY Cap! My boy Declan is a great guy, doing well in school and as a football and as a baseball player. But yes, the time seems to speed up, it seems like I was just tucking him away in his baby crib yesterday!

Oh boy Tom! Time does speed up! When you are age 10, one year is 10% of your life. I can remember in grade school, summer vacation seemed to last a long time. At age 88,, one year is 1.1% of your life. Very touching the photos of you and Declan! Happy you enjoyed seeing them again. Cap
