FOR THE LIFE OF ME..

I never know what is coming next here. For much of the day yesterday, I was “idly” pondering what on earth will I publish tomorrow.

So?

Out of the absolute blue. Kit in South Dakota absolutely amazes me with a comment she posted here on dotnet. 

A first ever. A totally unique event. 

NEVER, as in NEVER EVER, has someone posted a comment here on dotnet to a Post that we published as far back as one full year ago!

On November the 21st 2023 we published a Post.

One exact full year later..

On November the 21st 2024 Kit posted a comment to the November 21st 2023 Post!

Hi Kit. This IS amazing. Your commenting on a Post that dates back to November the 21st, 2023 one year ago! How did this happen Kit? And how will you get back here to see this my reply? Yes! Michael’s Little (Lil) Bit is a cutie. I plan to do a Post on Devils Tower “one of these days Kit”. We are really enjoying our Subway Footlong Chicken Salad Sandwiches. Smiling, Cap and Patti as well..

Kit, IF you are reading this, enlighten me on how it came to pass that you commented on a year old Post. How will you go back to see IF I replied to you?

DENTAL FLOSS..

Yes I know!

Flossing Day is celebrated on the fourth Friday in November (i.e., the Friday after Thanksgiving), which is November 22 this year.

The holiday stresses the importance of flossing your teeth every day for excellent oral health. Can you believe that horsehair was used as dental floss before the invention of the modern floss we use today?

Don’t forget that NATIONAL TODAY / NATIONAL DAY CALENDAR.. Are the sources of most, but not 100%, of the information on our various “Days”.

Do you all see the error in the above first sentence of the National Today Post? This year the Friday after Thanksgiving is NOT the 22nd. It IS the 29th.

The holiday stresses the importance of flossing your teeth every day for excellent oral health. Can you believe that horsehair was used as dental floss before the invention of the modern floss we use today?

Before the beginning of written history, humans have used a wide variety of materials like dental floss. Based on anthropological evidence found in ancient humans, horsehair was used as one of the first types of dental floss. Toothpicks and chew sticks with sharpened points are also two of the tools early humans employed for interdental cleaning.

In 1815, Dr. Levi Spear Parmly, a New Orleans dentist, created the earliest iteration of the modern dental floss. It was a thin, waxen silk thread that he encouraged his patients to clean between their teeth. This thread was readily available everywhere because it was used in tailoring. Four years later, Dr. Parmly published his dental book, “A Practical Guide to the Management of Teeth.” In the book, he recommended brushing twice a day and flossing once every day.

In 1882, the Codman and Shurtleff Company began producing unwaxed silk floss, marketed as dental floss. In 1898, Johnson & Johnson patented dental floss and began producing all types of waxed and unwaxed dental floss. Johnson & Johnson’s dental floss used the same silk material as surgical stitches.

However, in the 1940s, silk became expensive because of the war, causing the price of silk dental floss to skyrocket. Dr. Charles Bass introduced the idea of replacing silk with nylon. The idea received traction and later led to the invention of dental tape.

Dental floss has since evolved and now comes in different textures, materials, and flavors. They are also made to fit different mouths’ shapes and sizes. In 2000, the National Flossing Council created Flossing Day to remind everyone of the importance of flossing.

Smiles. My funny flossing story.

I was riding on a bus in India. I was on the aisle. Across the aisle from me was a well dressed, very respectable appearing Indian gentleman. This gentleman had something bothersome stuck between his teeth and, using a paper piece of money he was desperately (and hopelessly!) trying to get relief. I reached across the aisle and touched his arm and asked him.. “Sir. Why aren’t you using dental floss?”

In absolutely perfect English he said.. “What is dental floss?”

I whipped out a dental floss container, did a short explanation of using dental floss, and handed it to him.

Mere words here can, in no way, adequately express his gratitude to me for my introducing him to dental floss! and gifting him a container.

Friday, November 22nd (a.k.a. today).

AGE RELATED WET MACULAR DEGENERATION..

At 10am today, Friday, I have an appointment for my sixth (6th) age related Wet Macular Degeneration “injection” into my left eye!

“Dread” is not quite accurate. Let’s just say I am “not eagerly looking forward to today’s injection”.

This I will say! Beginning with my very first Wet Macular Degeneration eye injection last March the 8th, and continuing forward with the next four injections, the results have been outstanding! In fact the very first injection provided almost instant relief from the dark cloud my eye was seeing.

Normal vision is on the left below. On the right is the “cloud” of Wet Macular Degeneration.

My five injections to date. March 8th, April 22, May 28, July 24, and September 19th. 

Today I hope, I “pray” my doctor will say: “Things are looking so good that I feel your eye injections can be moved to one every three months”.

That is about the best one can expect!. One injection every three months.
