JAN 10, 25 (2 / 2 ).. HAVASU BALLOON FESTIVAL..

Friday January the 10th in the late evening.

This morning I was “up and out” early as the sun rose planning to welcome the presence of Hot Air Balloons in the skies above Lake Havasu City.

Don’t forget that the “ideal” wind speed for flying Hot Air Balloons is from 4mph to 6mph with a maximum safe wind speed of 8mph to 10mph.

Just look at the great weather, in terms of the wind speed, and look at what we had today for wind.

7 AM 3 mph.. 12 NOON  5 mph.. Right in the middle of the very best 4 mph to 6 mph wind speed.

No not one single balloon took flight. I physically went to the launching site and not even one single balloon was being prepared for flight.

Look at the prediction for the afternoon. Perfect, all afternoon the predicted wind was perfect.

At 4:15 PM, the time for the scheduled Friday afternoon Mass Ascension, again there was not one single balloon in the sky. Patti and I slowly drove past the primary launching site at 5 PM to confirm that there would be no afternoon flights.

Go figure. I am “somewhat of an insider”. All I was told is that the balloon pilots have their own special meeting venue and, as a group, they make the fly / no fly decisions.

See you all tomorrow Saturday the 11th when I will be working my volunteer assignment on the 5K / 10K run.

Cap, ready to go, and Patti
