Yesterday evening, Patti and I attended a seminar here at the Lake Havasu City Library in which artificial intelligence was discussed.

This is what I know about AI: It is having a disastrous effect on honest photography. I see videos of people cuddling polar bears. People scraping clams (CLAMS!) off whales. Sea lions with mussels. Any number of sea mammals encrusted with barnacles. BS!
I confirmed in a private discussion with Mr. Goodwin who made the presentation, that many of our current great thinkers feel that AI could destroy our civilization. Now THAT is something. Cap

It seems to me almost impossible that AI will not end up changing humanity as much as agriculture did. Sure would be nice if we could use the fruits of such a boon to develop each member of our human society to the limits of their desires and capacity instead of further stratifying us, keeping us conflicted with ourselves and each other, as we did with agriculture. It seems like studying indigenous cultures that lived in abundance and how they seem to do this the best of any humanity so far, might be a good starting place to get a feel for how to do that.
Hi Chad. I am so sorry that somehow, I have failed, until now, a full week later, to address your comment. Well as the saying ponders .. Is it better to be late than never to reply. I am not crystal clear about the concept that artificial intelligence (AI) could destroy our civilization. One avenue would be for AI to approach someone as a “friend”. You are thinking that a friend has approached you not knowing it is not your friend but an AI vehicle. The “evil” AI vehicle insults you and destroys your friendship. Then other AI vehicles join in the attack. And at some point you fight back against an invisible enemy or your spirit and emotions are destroyed. Now consider this! What if AI successfully attacks a leader of a nation posing as the leader of another nation sparking outright war! Or AI approaches us as being the IRS. Whewie Chad. Your Ally .. Cap
