JUL 14, 25.. HIGH RISK AREA CODES.. CATS CAN FISH..
The other day I decided to change how I deal with all of the “Unknown Texts and Unknown Phone Calls” that I receive often.
Because it might assist one of you I thought I’d share it here.
One answer is simple: If you don’t know, or recognize an Area Code or a phone number of an incoming call, if the caller has not left a voice mail message, simply delete or just block the number.
The problem with this for me is that possibly as many as 40% of these numbers turn out to be legitimate phone numbers of “long lost friends”. Often I will text back a message apologizing for not recognizing their number and ask them to verify who they are. Possibly as many as 30% apologize for mis-dialing. This leaves 30% that are truly unknown to me.
Online there are several websites that list certain Area Codes that are associated with a higher risk of scams and should be approached with caution. These include both domestic and international area codes where scam calls are frequently reported.
Because there are many websites listed when you Google “Dangerous Area Codes”, I decided NOT to publish any links.
Below is a Screen Shot of one of the most prominent lists I found.

In each of our Smart Phones we have a copy of the above Screen Shot. So before I contact the 30% of truly unknown numbers, I will now look at the above Screen Shot! If one of the above Area Codes appear, I will just Delete and Block the number.
Hope this assists someone.
This I know. Scammers and unknown callers are far too smart for me to get involved with any of them.
Just ask Patti for her experience or read it in our below Post.
