GUADALCANAL..
Unless you were a member of the United States Marine Corps, I don’t expect you to be interested in the below NATIONAL TODAY Holiday..
Guadalcanal is an island located in the Solomon Islands chain in the South Pacific and is known for its significance during World War II. It is a 2,510 square mile island and is primarily a jungle.
On 7 August 1942, Allied forces, predominantly U.S. Marines, landed on Guadalcanal, Tulagi, and Florida Island in the southern Solomon Islands.
Eighty Two years ago, in 1943 when the war in the Pacific was raging during World War II, I was only age 6 years and counting. There was a movie titled.. “Guadalcanal Diary” that was filmed just months after the actual allied invasion of Guadalcanal. Don’t ask me why, but that movie is one I shall never forget. The Marine Corps was a large part of our Invasion Force to re-capture Guadalcanal from the Japanese.
During my time in the Marine Corps in 1958 and 1959, I served with several fellow Marine associates who were involved in the Guadalcanal Campaign.
