True Story.. It just happened.

I said to Patti, “Our days are still getting dark earlier!!”

Then, I sat down here at our computer and I actually said to Patti..

“What is it that is special about December the 21st?”

Really..

It is absolutely, positively, unthinkable for  a resident of Alaska for over thirty (38) eight years to ask  the question ..

“What is it that is special about December the 21st?”

Got it! I had a very real Senior Moment!

Pure and simple, the Winter Solstice IS INDEED a very VERY special day up in Alaska. On the Winter Solstice, the long, dark nights begin to get shorter and the short winter days begin to get longer.

Yes it is also true here in Arizona BUT it is nothing like in Alaska.

Today,  Sunday, Dec 21, 2025, 8:03 AM, Mountain Standard Time, is the 2025 Winter Solstice.

NATIONAL TODAY sure knew what was important about December the 21st!!

THE WINTER / DECEMBER SOLSTICE..

In the Northern Hemisphere, The Winter Solstice marks the day with the shortest period of daylight and the longest night of the year. You can now look forward to the emergence of spring.

The roots of the word ‘solstice’ are Latin — meaning the sun standing still. 

On The Winter Solstice write yourself two notes. On one note, write down an aspect of the year past that you want to let go of, and on the second note, write down an aspiration or wish that you’d like to fulfill in the year to come.

The winter solstice occurs at an exact time on the exact day every year. Regardless of where you live, it occurs at a fixed time for everyone on Earth.

What is it about the winter solstice that inspires such myth and magic? 

The December Solstice or the Winter Solstice has always inspired mythical celebrations. The earliest people on Earth were fascinated by it. NATIONAL FLASHLIGHT DAY..

I have at lease a dozen flashlights all over our home and six or so in our truck. Am I “addicted” to Flashlights?

National Flashlight Day is celebrated on December 21.

The flashlight was made possible by the invention of mini incandescent light bulbs and the dry cell, which made battery-powered flashlights a reality in 1899. The invention of the flashlight is owed to the American-British inventor David Misell.
