We will begin with Patti’s two Holidays.

NATIONAL HOMEMADE SOUP DAY..
National Homemade Soup Day is celebrated on February 4.
Soup is the perfect winter meal. People have been enjoying this simple yet extremely delicious dish since 20,000 B.C.
The European countries were majorly responsible for its origination and growth.
Five years after Campbell’s released ‘noodle soup with chicken’ the host of a radio channel mispronounced it by mistake, saying, ‘chicken noodle soup.’
Patti will now share with you about her Homemade Soup.
I LOVED making homemade soup. For 16 years I lived in Girdwood, a small ski town in Alaska and raised chickens, both for eating and for having laying hens provide fresh eggs. After serving an edible chicken, I would boil the bones and what might be left of some of the chicken in a very large pot. After extracting the bones, I added lots of fresh vegetables from my garden. After letting this perk on the stove for a length of time, I would divide the soup into large “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter” containers and freeze these. Throughout the winter, we thoroughly enjoyed Homemade Chicken Vegetable Soup!! Fun and yummy memories..

Patti selected the below Holiday. BUT it is I, without exception, who reads aloud to Patti.
When Patti used to read aloud to me, I would always fall sound asleep. I really enjoy reading aloud!
WORD READ ALOUD DAY..
World Read Aloud Day is celebrated on the first Wednesday in February. So it takes place on February 4 this year.
This is a day dedicated to the art and practice of reading aloud.
Stories were passed down from generation to generation before writing was invented.
The ancient Sumerians are credited with the invention of writing from 3400B.C. to 3100B.C.
Oral forms of storytelling were the earliest way of preserving human knowledge, insight, and creativity. This day helps us bring this tradition back to reading while promoting literacy.
Patti will now share her thoughts on Reading Aloud
As a child I loved to have my parents read to me long before I learned to read myself. I have a younger brother (13 1/2 years younger) whom I read to as he was a toddler. Finally, when he was almost 4 years old, I was reading the newspaper one day and my brother asked how I was able to figure out what the words said. I promptly took him on my lap and taught him phonics, and his reading years began. More fond memories of how being read aloud to and reading aloud to others can bring enjoyment to both the reader and the listener!!

Now it’s my turn to show my two Holiday selections for February the 4th.
Why Oh Why does NATIONAL TODAY again have two almost identical Holidays?
MAIL CARRIER ..
This was the Number 1, first on the list of 25 Holidays, of NATIONAL TODAY for FEB 4.
The dedicated men and women who will be making sure the mail gets delivered today. They deserve our appreciation every day, but too often they are not recognized for the work they do. So today we salute the mail carriers who ensure our post reaches us.
This was the Number 17 on the list of 25 Holidays, of NATIONAL TODAY for FEB 4.
National Thank a Mailman Day, celebrated on February 4, is a day set aside to give recognition to mailmen across the United States.
When I was growing up (1936 to 1954) we had one mailman for probably 15 years. His name was Bill and each and everyone on our route knew and called him by name.
Those seem to be “The Good Old Days”. Gone forever.
