MAY 16, 26.. GOOD NEIGHBORS.. TREES..
Ah Yes ! God Love and God Bless Doug Shaw who passed away in August 2018. Doug did not understand my writing process. Sometimes the best that I can do is to “Sit down and (Julia Cameron) just begin writing. Eventually I get “Where I am going.” So Doug (I think back in year 2000) “Signed Off” (actually it was only for the time being) saying “Cap. Write about India. I don’t want to read about your process of writing about India!”
It is now 11:18pm Friday evening the 15th of May. For me it is best IF I begin writing a Post no later than 9pm in the evening. 11:19pm is too late in the evening and means I will be “Up late again this evening.” An hour or so ago I awoke from one of my “I lay down and take a nap OR I fall down and just sleep on the floor!” naps.
What did I do? No! I did not come out here and immediately begin to write. No! First I read two outstanding articles from our Grapevine Magazine to Patti. Then I said to Patti, “I did the right thing reading to you first. Now when I go out to write tomorrow’s Post, I will not just be leaving you here alone on our bed.”
Ah Yes Doug! We both miss you and so many others who are gone as the days and years continue to race past us.
It’s now 11:40 pm and I think I have arrived.
Oh!! We are “flirting with” 50°F temperatures!

No! Make no mistakes. These Posts are not a one man show. I read NATIONAL TODAY for May 16th and found absolutely nothing.

Jesus said “Love thy Neighbor”.. National Do Something Good for Your Neighbor Day is celebrated on May 16th.
The Bottom Line : To Feel Good! Do Good!
A neighbor is not merely the person who lives closest to you but can be anyone with whom you share a kinship. Therefore, your colleagues, friends, or fellow commuters also qualify as your neighbors!
For years, I used to get our third floor neighbor Eva her daily newspaper, write her a note of a few words (Have a great day Eva) and carry it up to her door step.
Tim is our neighbor across the hallway in 102. Tim does not use his hallway front door, he uses his outside Patio door. So he never knows when he has an Amazon order at his door. So I text message Tim when he has an Amazon order at his door.
I have given our other third floor neighbors permission (they have two cars) to use our car port as they need. And John above us assists Patti and I with our on again / off again Streaming T.V.
I make it a point to waive at and speak to neighbors in other buildings when I make my daily run to our Trash Dumpster.
A week ago I had a fasting blood draw for a medical appointment at the Veterans Administration (V.A.) Medical Center. The process is: You go into the waiting room for the laboratory. You go to a “Ticket Dispenser”. You get your ticket. You sit down and wait your turn.
A man walked in. Sat down and began waiting. I said to him, “Sir. You need to get a ticket over there by the doorway into the laboratory. He looked at me, he smiled, he said (showing his ticket to me) “I have my ticket. Thank You So Very Much Sir!”
Being ahead of him, when I was finished, I sat down to organize my things in the hallway outside of the laboratory. He finished and came up to me and siting down beside me said, “Sir I want to again thank you so very much for your assistance!”.
And?? We two visited a good 30 minutes!

Another Bingo for Patti.
When Patti was working down in Juneau for a member of the State of Alaska Legislature, we had an apartment. At lunch time and after work I would meet Patti halfway at a very attractive and warm tree. We would hug one another and we would then Hug the tree that we nicknamed our “Hugging Tree”.
NATIONAL LOVE A TREE DAY..
Trees actually didn’t exist for the first 90% of Earth’s history? Shocking, isn’t it? Before trees, our Earth had fungi that grew 26 feet tall and resembled trees. Trees have played an irreplaceable role in the smooth functioning of our environment and celebrating this special day dedicated to them is the least we can do to appreciate them.
It is estimated that there are close to three trillion mature trees in the world.
National Love A Tree Day is celebrated every year on May 16th.
A bristlecone pine tree named Methuselah has lived for more than 4,800 years and is older than the Egyptian Pyramids.
An average tree can drink up to almost 530 gallons of water annually.

Three TRILLION trees? I love hearing that. CA has probably lost tens of thousands in some of our fires, probably millions over the years. I am happy to hear that there are 3T.
I have a huge tree in my front yard. I think it would take 2 or 3 people to reach around it. I have wondered about its water needs. 530 gallons seems like a lot, but it seems green and healthy, so it must get what it needs in spite of the road next to it preventing rainwater from soaking into the ground. Someone told me tree roots stretch out twice as long as their height. So it must be invading quite a few of my neighbors’ yards. It did invade my sewer line. When I had it replaced, it was packed with roots. I’m lucky and grateful it didn’t back up into the house.
Well Kathleen. IF the huge tree in your front yard seems green and healthy then it must be O.K. Alaska loses a lot of trees to forest fires many summers started with lightning strikes in remote areas. Yes their roots do “travel” and do indeed cause blockages in sewer lines. We two are smiling with Gratitude that YOU seem to be doing so well Kathleen. Cap and Patti
