APR 16, 14 .. ALASKA’S ‘BREAK UP’ .. WINTER IS FADING ..

Below are additional photos showing the progress of break-up here in Anchorage in mid-April.  Patti and I measure the passing of winter into spring by looking out at our back yard as you see below.  We share the photos because they represent the daily change we look at and study.

Progressing down from hard winter to current break-up.  These photos look out from our condo living room to our back yard.  Oh my!  True winter is so beautiful isn’t it?

Look out if-you-will at the tree immediately to the right of the front three trees.  Below I will show the progress of break-up as measured at this distant tree that I will call the further-tree.  Below it is still completely surrounded by winter snow.

In the below photo .. this further-tree is still surrounded by the snow.

Photographed yesterday on April the 15th .. the below photo shows that this further-tree is now snow free.  And you can really see the progress of the snow melt behind the further-tree.

Orient yourself to the below photo ..

Now turn around to your left and look back in the other direction shown below.

DSCN4055[1]

Walk straight out toward the pile of snow in front of you in the above photo .. then turn back 180 degrees and look towards our condo.  See the ‘three trees’ that you have seen so many times above on the right of the below photo?

DSCN4057[1]

Now I have turned back around 180 degrees and walked past the pile of snow two photos above and into our parking lot and look back at the same pile of snow.
