AUG 7, 26.. LIGHTHOUSES..

Well ??

Long Pause !!

Patti and I have our very own favorite lighthouse down in Lake Havasu City, Arizona..

So, it is not too “Far Fetched” that the below NATIONAL TODAY Holiday attracted us is it?

National Lighthouse Day shines a light on these iconic structures every August 7th.

Because of their vital role in maritime safety, and their enduring beauty, lighthouses have captivated our hearts for centuries. Visit a local lighthouse, learn about its history, and if you are able, support preservation efforts to keep their stories alive.

As the first President of the United States, George Washington signed the Lighthouse Act of 1789, which brought all existing lighthouses under federal control and established the U.S. Lighthouse Establishment. This act marked a pivotal moment in the nation’s commitment to maritime safety and the development of its coastal infrastructure, ensuring the continued operation and maintenance of these vital navigational aids.

There are approximately 700 lighthouses across the United States. About 150 are still active as navigational aids. Many others are preserved as historical sites and museums, offering a glimpse into maritime heritage.
