Below is a close up photo of one of our two Community Trash Dumpsters.
Notice (above and below) that the left and the right lids to the dumpster are separate and cleanly independent from each other.
No the lids are NOT heavy IF you are younger than maybe 70 years of age.
Youngsters just lift one lid with one hand, hold the (heavy) lid open and with the other hand (one piece at a time) throw trash into the dumpster.
I.. Can. Not.. Accomplish the above. Hold the (heavy) lid open with one hand and toss trash in with the other hand!
I have a very special piece of a tree branch that I modified and use to hold the Dumpster lid open.
Its bottom has a nice notch that securely fits into the Dumpsters front edge.
Below my Dumpster tool is in use.
With the lid wide open, one piece (individual bags of trash) at a time I toss them into the Dumpster.
The above procedure is IN A PERFECT WORLD!!
Not too often, maybe twice a month, the edge of left lid is on top of the right lid and securely holding the right lid down.
Keep in mind this procedure has been challenging me for (not years) but Decades. As I am getting older even more so!
So I lift the (heavy) left lid up and “wrestle” the left lid back to the left so it is NOT holding down the right lid.
Am I Stupid or AM I STUPID !!

Great to see your comment Gord. You wrote.. “Just don’t lose the stick.” Now Gord, how do I do THAT when each and every single day (bar none) I spend a fair amount of time “Looking all over, high up and down low. For things like my Smart Phones!!”
Seriously Gord the danger, the risky part is having the stick get dislodged and drop down into the dumpster!! The dumpster lids do shift quite a bit to the side as I open them and affix the stick. So yes it is at risk of that happening BUT I know it and I take precautions to protect it from falling into the dumpster. In our Condo, the stick lives in one, and only one, certain place!! Smiles Gord!! Cap
