FEB 21, 19 .. TOMORROW WE FLY BACK TO IRKUTSK, RUSSIAN SIBERIA

Because today is a day-before-we-travel, we stayed in our hotel room pretty much all day. Patti relaxed and did some reading and I did some catching up on my on-line projects.

Just in case some of you didn’t see it, I published a post on blogspot showing The Incheon Metropolitan City Museum that I visited here in Incheon yesterday.

It is hard to believe, but tomorrow (Friday the 22nd of February) is almost here and Patti will visit Russia for the first time in her life.

In preparation for our flight to Irkutsk tomorrow, last Tuesday I visited the Incheon International Airport and found exactly where our airline’s (S7 Airlines) check in counter is located. First I had to ascertain that it leaves from Terminal 1. There are two gigantic terminals here. Then I got several answers from (so called ) information counters as to where S7 is based. One of my ‘sources’ (get this, at an ‘official’ information counter )  did not even know that there was an airline named S7.

Neither did we know about an airline named S7!

I know that all of you following along here probably have not heard of S7 BUT  you are not paid employees at an ‘official’ airline terminal information counter.

Finally, after considerable ‘walking around’ this enormous terminal, I found it (Aisle J counters 1 – 7). Then (because I’d done my homework, I knew that an S7 flight was due to fly to Irkutsk shortly) I went to the S7 Airlines check in staff and confirmed that we do indeed have our flight properly booked. They very carefully brought us up on their computers, and examined our passports for valid Russian Visas. All is well.

Because the Tuesday (Seoul – Irkutsk) flight was due to depart at 4:25pm, and I walked up to their check in counter at 4pm, they almost fainted thinking I was going to attempt to catch their Tuesday 4:25pm flight. As in the United States, even here the airlines want you to check in three hours early. I assured them that I wanted information on my Friday the 22nd of February flight.

Today’s Rhetorical Question : Do any of you think that, for one New York Minute, if I am able to do so, I am going to wait until the day and the time I arrive at the airport to do the above research?

This is important because, for the first time ever when out of the United States, I booked this international flight on-line myself. Usually I book with a professional travel agency located in a major hotel or directly with the airlines. S7 is short on having official offices. For all I know they don’t have them and do all their business on-line.

Thanks all of you for your support and for following our on-going adventures.

Thursday here in NV USA- you may be “in the air” now,or soon. Blessings on the journey-Cap,very smart move (IMO) going to the airport & scouting out your location/of terminal & best way TO the terminal- finding your route around ANY airport can be a tough assignment,I can only imagine the scenarios in another country.Love the photos,Seoul,(to me) looks very reminiscent of photos of Hong Kong,as in scrubbed up,modern & spic & span.Be careful, Via Con Dios to you & Patti,I will be sure to watch the next few days for when you get on the ‘net again in Siberia Tom

Cap, knowing you, there are well-worn pathways from where ever you stayed to whatever method of transportation you used to depart that place. ;)
