NOV 12, 19 .. IRKUTSK / ARSHAN .. RUSSIAN SIBERIA

Prologue : The reason this post exists here on dot.net is simple : Google has no provision for me to use Google Maps on my Google website.

In the parlance of Information Technology, what I’m doing here is a ‘work around’.

On my Google website, bobbacaps.blogspot.com, I am going to publish a series of posts on Arshan, a village / an area in Russian Siberia that many of you have never heard about. I will refer back to this post from the blogspot post so readers on blogspot can see the below maps.

While Patti and I were together in Irkutsk, Russian Siberia, we took several very pleasant automobile trips with Irkutsk friends Sergey and Elena. One was to a town / village / area called Arshan.

Arshan translates extremely well.

In English it is : A .. R .. SH .. A .. N

In Russian Cyrillic it is : А .. Р ..  Ш ..  А .. Н

VOILÁ .. АРШАН

This is what I call a very ‘clean’ translation beween Russian / English.

АРШАН / ARSHAN

“STOP RIGHT HERE CAPTAIN!”

“You know the Russian Cyrillic Alphabet. The rest of us DO NOT.”

“What can I say?”

АРШАН / ARSHAN

Now we will take a look-see on the map.

Oh My ! Oh My ! .. Russia is one gigantic country. The red balloon points to the Irkutsk / Arshan Area.

Now we will ‘zero in’ for a little closer look.

We are talking about a straight-through three and a half (3-1/2) hour drive of 220 km / 137 miles. With me asking to stop so I could to take photos, we took a little over four (4) hours.

Technically, as you can see in the above map, it is a bit of a misnomer to lump Irkutsk and Arshan together. For one thing, they are in two entirely separate political subdivisions within the Russian Federation.

Irkutsk is located in the Irkutsk Oblast.

Arsan is located in the Republic of Buryatia.

The reason I am lumping them together is because they have a shared territorial boundary and many Irkutsk residents visit Arshan on summer weekends. As I mentioned above, friends Sergey and Elena who live in Irkutsk took us to Arshan because they enjoy visiting Arshan.

The time has come for us to ask that you please click onto the below link which will take you to blogspot and the beginning of a series of posts on Arshan.

You’ve got it! The maps are essential no matter the cost. By the way I don’t know what I’m paying for them. At the time it was a rather tiring day but I’m sure happy we made the drive. Much Love .. Cap
