APR 4, 13 (2/2) .. ‘ZILLA ! .. YOU ‘ZILLA MADE ME DO THIS !
Since this little ‘missive’ is going out onto the world-wide-web .. the famous ‘www’ .. I will give those of you following along here some background.
First .. ‘Zilla please forgive me as to the date and the timing and the exact precise details of the below story.
About a year ago .. it was early (5AM) in the morning back in the East (Atlanta) .. and ‘Zilla was leaving his hotel room to catch-a-flight West to California. ‘Zilla casually ‘tripped-over-his-suitcase’ as he went to pick-it-up and leave his hotel room.
NO-BIG-DEAL RIGHT? ALL-OF-US casually trip sometimes!
Well it WAS-A-HORRIBLE-BIG-DEAL! By the time he got to California he was in real pain.
LONG-STORY-SHORT .. he had to have ‘Rotator-Cuff’ Surgery on his shoulder and the recovery process WAS AN ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY MONTHS-LONG NIGHTMARE for him!
IT WAS BAD and even IF ‘Zilla was to say to me today .. “Cap it wasn’t all THAT bad.” .. I would NOT believe him. IT WAS THAT BAD!
IT CHANGED AND IT ALTERED AND IT RE-ARRANGED HIS LIFE!
Like me .. he is in his mid-70s and did NOT snap-back like a young professional athlete would!
Well ‘Zilla is .. shall we say .. a ‘little SENSITIVE’ to falling down! And those of you following along here have read some of my Posts titled .. ‘ZILLA ASKS .. PART xx .. I think we are up to PART IV at present.
In .. ‘ZILLA ASKS .. PART III .. dated MARCH 10th .. in the fourth paragraph down from the top .. I answered one of ‘Zilla’s questions as follows ..
“Yes I have and try to carry a flashlight. I have several. I do NOT use a cane nor a walking stick. I would lose them. I have a history of doing so in the United States .. so I feel .. ‘why bother’ ..”
The ‘active words’ in the above paragraph are: “I do NOT use a cane nor a walking stick.”
‘Zilla asked me this question before March 10th .. so for the past MONTH OR EVEN LONGER I have been thinking about his question. “Cap do you use a cane or a walking stick?”
Here I am .. writing extensively about all of the walking and all of the tripping hazards here in India. Here I am .. KNOWING that a fall could be LIGHTS-OUT-FOR-ME! Here I am .. KNOWING that IF I LOSE MY BALANCE alongside of the roadway it could be LIGHTS-OUT-FOR-ME.
Can you imagine what happens to me IF I lose my balance as this bus is BLASTING PAST ME as I am ‘hunkering-down’ on the roadside shoulder!
HERE I AM .. KNOWING THAT LAST DECEMBER 12, 2012 (12-12-12) I was in the Emergency Room in Lafayette .. Louisiana .. being diagnosed with BENIGN POSITIONAL VERTIGO because of some VERY SERIOUS BALANCE ISSUES! Listen .. NEITHER Baka Kaps nor Bobba Caps ‘go easily’ to the Emergency Room in a hospital many thousands of miles from home!
I was told (in part) as I was released to .. lie down and rest and eat a balanced diet .. move slowly .. avoid falls .. no sudden body or head movements ..
SO THANKS TO YOU ‘ZILLA!
This past Monday I went out and I ‘looked at’ some canes. I did NOT buy one but I did investigate them. And I did find one I kind-of-sort-of liked. But I thought .. “Let’s not get too serious here Captain! Do we really need a cane?”
Well today I said to myself .. “I am going to get that cane I liked.”
It cost me 650 Rs Indian (about $13 US Dollars).
It is a bit ‘High Tech’ with a nice feeling plastic handle.
And it really adjusts very precisely. Its adjustment is very SOLID and very SECURE. It has a series of holes and ONE tightly fitting metal pin that will align with one hole when you have it the length you want.
TO TELL YOU THE HONEST TRUTH .. I REALLY LIKED HAVING IT WHEN I WALKED HERE TO THE INTERNET CAFE .. AND I THOUGHT TO MYSELF .. ‘WHY HAVEN’T I DONE THIS SOONER?”
AND I HAVE ALREADY TRIED TO LOSE IT!
