APR 5, 13 .. A MODIFICATION TO MY .. ‘ZILLA – CANE !

I do have fun!  As many of you know .. I was active at the topmost-level of professional automobile racing some (over) forty years ago!

So I like to ‘tinker’ and ‘putz’ and ‘fuss’ with things to make-them-suit-me.

When in India I am somewhat limited as to what I can do. BUT I CAN DO SOME MINOR THINGS THAT MEAN A LOT TO ME.

HOW ODD!  On Saturday .. March 6th of 2004 about 11AM in Anchorage, Alaska .. I fell on the ice in front of the JC Penny store and broke my left knee-cap in two places and injured (but did NOT break) my right knee-cap.

So?  So using a cane is nothing NEW TO ME!  I HAVE at least two canes in each place I call ‘home’.  I have several because I DO lose the darned things.  In the US I have my name and address info taped to each cane so I do have some chance of the lost canes finding me.  None ever have done so however.

I DO NOT WANT TO LOSE THIS NEW CANE !

I have ‘modified’ it SO I CAN ACTUALLY PHYSICALLY ATTACH THE CANE TO ME!

Aren’t these photos fun and don’t they bring a Post to-life!

To refresh you IF you did not read my Post yesterday .. here are two photos of me and my brand new .. ‘ZILLA – CANE!  Wearing the ‘blaze yellow’ shirt is a safety thing for me!  I CAN BE SEEN!  Which makes me one of two things .. (1) Something to be AVOIDED or (2) Something to be HIT!

CANE 005

What the below four photos show you is HOW I have modified my ‘ZILLA – CANE so that I can ‘attach it to me’ to HELP me NOT to lose it.

What I have done is to insert a ‘screw-eye’ into the handle of the cane. Then I can attach one end of a small chain to the ‘screw-eye’ and the other end to me or to a chair or my briefcase or you-name-it!

Below you see all of the bits-and-pieces that I needed to do-the-job!  The ‘screw-eye’ is immediately below the cane’s blue handle .. then you see a clamp to clip-into-the-screw eye .. and a small chain to attach to the clamp.

The hardware I needed consisted of drill-bits to drill a hole into the handle of the cane.  The Vise-Grip Pliers are to tighten the drill-bits into the ‘pin vises’ that hold the drill-bits so I can drill the hole.  The X-Acto knife I used to ream the top of the hole clean.

Below you see the finished product.  The ‘screw-eye’ is fully inserted into the handle of the cane!  Following the below photo are close-ups of the clamping device.

These next two photos REALLY show you the business-end of the project.
