SEP 9, 11 (1/3) .. NEW DELHI
In Latest News for today.. Friday the 9th of September.. I wrote of the terrific MONSOON rains that absolutely drenched New Delhi this early morning up until about 11AM.. the weather forecast is for more rain all weekend with the rain INCREASING ON MONDAY.. how I wonder can solid rain increase.. maybe the weather people here mean longer.. and with more wind.. and with more thunder..
Suddenly we got a break in the rain.. I noticed that it had stopped and I dashed out of the YMCA over to the bus stand and rode directly to the New Delhi Main Railway Station.. I got to the Reservations Office for Foreign Tourists (oh what a blessing this office is..) at exactly 12:30PM noontime.. it took forty (count them) minutes to get to a Reservations Agent.. and book the train.. of course I was exceedingly lucky to get a seat on the train tomorrow but get a seat I did..
I FIGURED THAT IF WE WERE GOING TO BE INUNDATED WITH MONSOON RAINS AND THAT I WOULD BE SORTTA SITTING IN THE YMCA.. WHY NOT MAKE A BREAK FOR CALCUTTA.. SO I PULLED THE TRIGGER..
THEN I went to the cell phone office and NOW I HAVE MY VERY OWN CELL PHONE.. A ‘VODAFONE’ (like a Sprint cell phone.. or a Verizon cell phone” mine is a Vodafone here in India).. and I have actually made a call to Patti in the United States and we spoke about me using my new cell phone.. my new friend the Vodafone CHARGES ME BY THE SECOND FOR HIS CALLS..
It is now 4:50PM.. 1650 hours, and I am hot and I am sweaty and I am bushed.. but I could get right into the Internet Cafe so I decided to jump in and JUST DO IT.. write this and do an update to latest news..
IF YOU CAN’T PERFORM HERE IN INDIA WHEN YOU ARE HOT AND SWEATY AND TIRED AND YOUR NOSE IS RUNNING LIKE CRAZY AND YOU ARE HACKING AND COUGHING FROM THE AIR AFTER ONLY A DAY HERE.. AND YOU HAVE FOUGHT OFF TWO (count ’em) NOSEBLEEDS EARLIER TODAY.. THEN YOU WILL HAVE A DEUCE OF A TIME ‘DOING INDIA’..
JAYWALKING IN INDIA… ANOTHER OBSERVATION.. GET WITH ME HERE ON THIS..
IF YOU ARE AT A FORMALLY MARKED CROSS WALK.. WHITE PAINTED CROSS HATCHED LINES ACROSS THE STREET.. AND THE GREEN WALK SIGNAL IS SHINNING.. IT IS STILL A JAYWALKING EXPERIENCE.. BECAUSE THE DRIVERS HERE WILL RANDOMLY RUN RED LIGHTS.. GOT IT..
ALL OF INDIA IS ONE BIG JAYWALK..
Over and Out for Now.. I MUST BATHE with bottled water and rest..
AND DID I REST.. I slept soundly for over four (4) hours.. waking up just in time to go downstairs to get my dinner..
