APR 8, 13 (2/2) .. SOME ODDS AND ENDS ..

Yesterday afternoon IT REALLY RAINED HARD here in Kodaikanal .. then last night .. which was Sunday night .. I again stayed late here at the Internet Cafe and had to do one of two things.

1. Walk up to the Main Bus Stand and catch a bus ‘down-the-hill’ OR ..

2. Walk down the hill myself .. in the dark .. and just ‘see-what-it-would-be-like’ .. a real first-time experience .. walking back to the Raahat Inn at night in the dark!

I opted to .. Take-A-Very-Deep-Breath .. and set out to walk down the hill to the Raahat Inn.

AMAZING!

I was NOT alone! In fact .. I had a lot-of-company!

You see .. many people here are very low-income and poor .. these people can NOT afford the 10 Rs Indian or $0.20 US Dollars to ride a bus. So they walk everywhere!

AMAZING!

I just got myself kind-of-sort-of in amongst them all and just kept pace!

AMAZING!

Each and Every Single One Of Them were wearing very dark clothing .. or .. in the dark .. their clothing looked very dark. And with NO seeming regard for the traffic .. they just ‘plodded’ along oblivious to the traffic.

THE ONLY THING THAT HAPPENED TO ME WAS:

Because it had rained so hard during the afternoon .. there was a lot of free-standing water everywhere .. and I stepped into a ‘pot-hole’ about two inches deep I would guess .. I did not see it in the dark and I got a really HOT FOOT. My left foot and mini-boot got pretty wet.

True! I could have hurt my knee or hip or fallen down but I did none of these.

I let my left mini-boot dry all night and then hung it up on the clothes line in the morning sun this morning and by the time I left the Raahat Inn .. it was not only dry .. it was toasty warm and the right foot felt odd to be room temperature!

Will I do this again .. yes tonight when I leave after dark .. I want another shot at this experience.
