OCT 22, 19 .. WINDOWS 10

When I bought my first Lenovo laptop back in September of 2016, I was told, and I read everywhere, that Windows 10 was it! There would not be any further Windows operating systems.

Then I got my second Lenovo in September 2018. Beginning last May of 2019, I started getting notices from Microsoft that my version of Windows 10 was outdated and that I needed to upload a new, and the latest, version of Windows 10.

Basically I just ignored them.

Then a week or so ago Microsoft told me that in November they would no longer support my current version of Windows 10 and that I needed to upload Windows 10 version 1903.

When I tried to download Windows 10 version 1903, I was told that I needed an additional 10GB of memory. So I went out today and purchased an external storage device of 16GB.

I was up all night with this project. It takes between 2-1/2 and 3 hours to download Windows 10 version 1903. When it is completed, it shows 100% and goes on to say there are further actions necessary.

So far I have not been able to get these further actions successfully accomplished. Three times I have gone through the 2-1/2 to 3 hour process, and three times that upload would not finish.

What to do.

Maybe The Shadow Knows.

I know I sure don’t.

Sigh .. Cap

You have FAR more knowledge and perseverance than I have when it comes to computers. That said, this has got to be in the super frustrating category. Hope you get it figured out or find someone who can help you figure it out. Sigh. Love, Patti

Here is the deal : The Windows 10 operating system has an absolute myriad of applications beginning with complex computer games and on and on and on. My needs are simple. Happy is still running a ‘bootleg’ / ‘illegal’ version of Windows 7. So even if I don’t get Windows 10 version 1309 downloaded, I’ll probably be fine. I’m now using Windows 10 version 1803, April 30, 2018 and its lifecycle ends November 10, 2019, but it is FAR newer than a ‘bootleg’ Windows 7 that is still working on Happy’s Dell Desktop. Bottom line I’ll probably not even know what it is I am missing since I don’t use much of what Windows offers in their updated version 1903. Make sense? Much Love .. Cap

Yes indeed this is why I have the Best Buy Geek Squad on our team. We have the big bucks package ($250 per year). When IN Anchorage, I prefer to just take a computer into the store and leave it with them. No rush. Each and every single time (and yes there have been times when I could not go to a store) that I have used them remotely (please listen up) it was via their 800-433-5778 phone number. And with me at my computer and them on the phone, we got all the jobs successfully accomplished. Here in Mongolia (or where ever) I just can not get into long phone calls AND one time they told Patti over the phone that NO they did not work out of the country. Thanks. Cap

PS Your older version of Win 10 will still work. You just won’t get updates. Make sure your web security is safe.

BTW: Having much the same problem with my Dell. Not enough room to update a couple programs I use all the time. Some day when I have lots of time, I will get hold of the Geek Squad.

YES indeed. Did you read where I wrote that (my landlord) Happy’s ancient Dell Desk Top, with an illegal / bootlegged Windows 7 operating system, STILL WORKS PRETTY DARNED WELL! So I know my quite up-to-date Windows 10 version 1803 April 30, 2018, will go for some time into the future. Smiles .. Cap

Seems to me I have had that “need to update to a newer version of Windows “appear on my other computers a few times when I was still using them. I recall it was a bug, but not sure.

It sounds like –if you need another 10 Gb–that you are installing two versions of Win 10, rather than updating to a newer version. You might want to check on that.

You have to make room on your computer for the newer version if you try to update. For example, you should move all your photos, etc., to the external drive. You can look at the properties to see how much room you will acquire by moving the photos. You can do this by right clicking on Pictures then Properties at the bottom of the menu.

Check the Properties of your C drive, too.

However, I would suggest doing a live chat with either Geek Squad or Microsoft itself, to see what is going on. And check with Andre to see if I have any idea of what I’m talking about.

I bought a SanDisk 16GB thumb drive (external storage) per Microsoft. They said I needed a minimum of 10GB storage and this fit-the-bill. When I began my download of Windows 10 version 1903 they (as part and parcel of the download) OK’d my laptop as having the necessary storage. NO I am not installing two versions. Microsoft said that once completed, my external storage was only for temporary use and that it would remain unused after the download and that in no way would they reformat it. I don’t have to move or delete anything. I just plugged in an additional 16GB of external storage and was good-to-go. Yes my C drive is full with a lot of it Microsoft stuff I can’t delete. Geek Squad is not an option with me being out of the country. I looked into getting a 500GB (Five Hundred gigs) external hard drive as well. Don’t need it because the 16GB thumb drive was OK’s by Microsoft. Thanks for your interest. It means a lot to me! Cap

I am getting sick and tired of change / change / change often just because someone feels insecure in their job and feel that they have to change things. YES Microsoft IS indeed changing things around. I fear an update to Windows 10 version 1903 will change how you do photo uploads etc. Each and every single time I (Andrej) do an update on my Word Program it really creates havoc and I mean HAVOC for me. NOT smiling .. Cap
