SEP 22, 21 .. PART 2 OF 2 .. HIGH NOON .. PATTI’S MEDICAL UPDATE

This Post is Part 2 of 2.

In Part 1 of 2, I wrote the following : At (and yes I mean literally) 12 noon (high noon) I will drop Patti off at Providence Hospital Day Surgery and watch her disappear behind doors to begin her breast cancer surgery.

Thus the above HIGH NOON title, Part 2 of 2.

HIGH NOON arrived.

And?

On time, on schedule, at 12 noon, I watched Patti enter Providence Hospital here in Anchorage, Alaska, and disappear from view. Patti had her cell phone with her, and it was all right with the hospital staff that she could send and receive text messages and call me, so I decided, instead of driving home immediately to our Condo (as we had planned I would do) and wait there to be called by the hosptal staff to come and pick Patti up after her breast cancer surgery, I decided to wait in the parking lot, out front and directly across from the Emergency Room. This way (because of the severe Covid-19 crisis in Alaska I could not enter the hospital myself) I could be ‘closer’ to Patti than I would be had I gone home.

As it turned out, I stayed the day out in the parking lot across from the Emergency Room.

IF I did one thing correctly today, it was this :

BEFORE leaving to take Patti to the hospital, I ate a full breakfast.

I did not think, for one, short, New York Minute, that I was going to be out in our truck for 5 hours and 50 minutes. I don’t know how I would have fared without having eaten breakfast.

After entering the hosptial at 12 noon, Patti went first into a waiting room where she was formally signed in and all of the miscellaneous last minute paperwork completed. Then Patti waited to be called for her surgery.

Patti and I talked and texted for just over 2 hours until she was taken into the Operating Room at 2:15pm. I also was in telephone touch with the hospital staff in the Surgery Cener. This was a notch beyond wonderful because the surgical procedure was much longer than either Patti or I had expected it to be and periodically I called the staff to see IF Patti was still in the Operating Room.

I also sent (here is a vast understatement) a few text messages to keep our family members informed of Patti status.

About 5:35pm (having been informed by the hospital staff that Patti was out of surgery and in the recovery phase of her operation) I pulled up to the front of the Emergency Room to pick Patti up.

With Patti beside me (I had the heater on high and Patti said it felt wonderful) at 5:50pm we high-tailed it home to our Condo.

And?

The following two facts will tell you how Patti was feeling.

1. We were home by 6pm in time to watch Matt Amodio win his 25th consecutive Jeopardy and increase his earnings to $893,201.

2. At 7pm we two then watched the two hour season opener of Survivor.

And?

SUMMING IT ALL UP

As I implied above, Patti IS feeling very good. Patti’s surgeon told Patti after the operation that all went well during the surgery and that she and Patti will meet in her office this upcoming Tuesday to discuss the results of Patti’s surgery.

We will conclude with this : We (especially yours truly) deeply appreciate all of your love and support today during a (for me at least) very stressful afternoon as I was texting you about my being very worried at the length of time Patti was in the Operating Room. For some reason, I was under the impression that this was going to be a very short operation (her surgeon said last week : I will go in, get the ‘tiny’ tumor, and remove it) and I took this to mean we’re talking something very quick. Not the case at all.

And?

IF yours truly here doesn’t get up and get to bed I may fall over and just sleep on the floor here.

Smiling and in good spirits .. Patti and Cap
