NOV 11, 21 .. VETERAN’S DAY 2021

Today, Veteran’s Day 2021, we pause to honor and to thank and to salute those who have served in our Armed Forces.

It is no secret that many have lost their lives fighting in our Armed Forces, be it in full scale wars, to losing lives during basic training maneuvers that can be extremely dangerous.

Veteran’s Day started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country’s service and was originally called Armistice Day. It fell on Nov. 11 because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to “Veterans Day” in order to account for all veterans in all wars.

Veterans Day is on the same day every year — November 11 — regardless of which day of the week it falls. When the date falls on a Saturday or Sunday, government offices or businesses may recognize it on both the official day and the following Monday.

As is the case with so many topics, our friends at Wikipedia have a complete discussion of  Veteran’s Day.

I have often stated in previous Posts, that my joining the United States Marine Corps, back in January of 1958, was the one best decision of my entire life to this very moment. In July of 1964 I received a commission in the United States Navy Seabees.

My father served in the United States Coast Guard.

My eldest son served in the United States Army.

My youngest son served in the United States Air Force.

Patti’s father served in the United States Merchant Marine and the Unted States Navy.

Patti’s eldest brother served in the United States Navy.

It is a honor to have served.

It is an honor to thank and to salute all others who have served our Nation’s Military Service.
