DEC 31, 21 .. OUR STOLEN GMC SUBURBAN AND THE EMERGENCY ROOM..

I am writing these words on Friday, December the 31st (aka New Years Eve Day).

I will be writing about yesterday, Thursday, December the 30th.

I will begin by stating that I was (to understate the fact) not in a very good state of health. Please see the below link IF you are interested in a totally different (from the stolen GMC) life challenge I had yesterday and continuing into today the 31st of December.

Below are a few photographic hints about another life challenge I experienced yesterday (Thursday the 30th and this morning Friday the 31st).

Yes, after driving up to Laughlin, Nevada, getting our GMC Suburban and driving back to Lake Havasu City, I spent from 9pm yesterday evening until about 6am this morning in the local Lake Havasu Medical Center.

Trust me on this, yesterday, Thursday December the 30th, was one challenging day in my life.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER THE 30TH, 2021.

At llAM, Patti and our Lake Havasu City resident and long time personal friend Michael, Michael’s dog Little Bit, and myself drove up to Laughlin, Nevada to retreive our stolen GMC Suburban (Black Beauty) having no idea of what condition he would be in. Not knowing if he would even be driveable. Not even knowing if he had any gasoline in his gas tank. 

We went to the wrecking and storage yard of a local towing company with offices in both Bullhead City, Arizona, and Laughlin, Nevada, where Black Beauty was being held. I had been asked over the phone yesterday if I had a ‘lot of stuff’ in (the GMC Suburban) truck and I said yes we did. I was then told that yes, there was a ‘lot of stuff’ in the Suburban.

Because of the above conversation, I actually expected to find all of ‘our stuff’ in Black Beauty.

Sports Fans and Friends, IF one thing (let’s call it The First Thing) went well yesterday, it was this : June, the administrator of the Laughlin, Nevada, storage yard, was one fantastic human being. I’ve had some dealings with such facilities and the employees can be challenging.

When Patti spotted Black Beauty in the storage yard she nearly (her words) burst into tears. 

Into the office we went. I explained to June who I was and showed her my paperwork (copy of the registration, a copy of our proof of insurance and my Alaska State Drivers License). She said, “There is one problem. Your truck does not have any license plates on it. You MUST go to the State of Nevada, Department of Motor Vehicles, and get paperwork to legally drive your truck.” June herself went with us to Black Beauty and June scoured him looking for license plates. None were to be found.

The Second Thing that went well yesterday. The State of Nevada, Department of Motor Vehicles, has an office in Laughlin, about one hundred and fifty feet from the office of the storage facility. An easy walk.

Into the Nevada DMV, Laughlin Office I went. It is now around 12:15pm noontime. I took a numbered ticket and was in line to speak with one employee on duty.

When my number was called, I went to the gentleman on duty and (luckily for me) sat in a comfortable chair in front of him (lucky because I was going to be there awhile).

Cap : “Sir my truck was stolen. It is in the storage yard next to here. ..”

I had not finished my sentence.

Nevada DMV : “I can’t help you!”

Cap : “Sir my truck was stolen. It is in the storage yard next to here. The storage yard said I cannot take the truck without .. “

Nevada DMV : “I can’t help you!”

Cap : ‘Sir can I finish my sentence?”

Nevada DMV : “I can’t help you!” this time said with some forceful vengence!

Cap : “Sir my truck was stolen. It is in the storage yard next to here. The storage yard said I cannot take the truck without Nevada paperwork.”

Nevada DMV : “I can’t help you!” this time said with much more forceful vengence!

Cap : “Sir, what am I to do? I can’t get my truck .. “

Nevada DMV : “I can’t help you!” this time said with much more forceful vengence! Followed by .. “Don’t you see I am busy, look at the line of people waiting to be helped. I can’t help you!”

Cap : Beginning to get somewhat forcefull myself !! “Sir I have done nothing wrong. My truck was stolen from in front of my Motel in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. I am from Alaska. My wife and I are down here to attend to some medical issues at the Mayo Clinic. etc”

Nevada DMV : “You will have to deal with the Arizona State DMV. Have you ever lived in Nevada? Have you ever registered a vehicle in the State of Nevada? . . and on and on.” .. “I can’t help you !!!!!” .. “I am busy. There is a line of people waiting to be helped. etc”

Cap : “I am here. I need your help. I am not leaving.” .. “Can I call the wrecking yard?” (he said NO he wouldn’t). .. “Will you call the wrecking yard?” (he said NO he wouldn’t). .. “I repeated myself.”

I guess God must have shown up somehow! I have no other explanation for the following. 

Nevada DMV : “I can possibly issue you a temporary, State of Nevada, SPECIAL DRIVE-AWAY PERMIT.”

And? He THEN did everything in his power to force me to be unable to answer just one (of many) questions he asked of me. I kept answering him with correct answers.

Nevada DMV : “This will cost you $8.25.” I had cash but asked him IF he would take a credit card. He said yes.

Are you all remembering that I am feeling so bad that, upon returning to Lake Havasu City, I spent the night (nine hours) in the Emergency Room? I did not want, I did not need this hassle from this man! 

So out I went with my State of Nevada, SPECIAL DRIVE-AWAY PERMIT. 

Not knowing IF it was what the towing company would accept.

The about to happen Third Thing that went well yesterday is ..

“Hi June. I have a State of Nevada, SPECIAL DRIVE-AWAY PERMIT. Is this what you need?”

The about to happen Third Thing that went well yesterday is ..

“Yes it is. It is just perfect.”

Now we could actually get our hands on Black Beauty. 

The (I am going to lump them together)  Fourth Thing that went well yesterday.

My stolen keys were in Black Beauty. The steering wheel Club was in him. He had about 1/4 tank of gasoline. He started instantly. Our Alaska Handicapped Parking Placard that hangs from the mirror  was still in Black Beauty. The criminal(s) had left (just for us obviously) a large bag of hard candy and a lovely, little stuffed animal. Shockingly!! Can any friends of Bill imagine this : the criminal(s) had left (just for us obviously) an A.A. Big Book to read. 

And? The criminals had totally removed everything of ours which was a lot of items (including our twin bed mattress) except for a small, red suitcase that was stuffed with their clothing.

The Fifth Thing that went well yesterday, to the best of my ability to determine, after driving him about 80 miles back to Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Black Beauty is in the driving condition that he had when he was stolen. I am going to take him into a dealer next week for a check up.

We got home to our motel. I was a walking, talking, semi-functional human being in a condition that, at 9pm last night, I went to the Emergency Room here in Lake Havasu City and spent the rest of the night there.

Thursday, December 30th and the early hours of Friday, December the 31st..
