APR 4, 22 .. I AM STILL WAITING .. FOR LIFE TO GET EASY .. IT’S NOT HAPPENING

Let’s begin with the good, really great news.

PART 1 .. Out and off to Flagstaff, Arizona

On the proverbial zero (0) to ten (10) scale, with ten (10) being the very best one can achieve, our trip was a ten (10). IF I could I’d rate it a twenty (20). The weather was beyond phenomenal. We left Lake Havasu City with the temperature 82°F and it steadily got cooler and cooler as we climbed from 738 feet (Lake Havasu City) to 7,000 feet (Flagstaff) falling to 59°F. When we visited the Arizona Snow Bowl Skiing site the temperature was 48°F !!

First off, Patti and I got out of our motel room in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, on time at 11am (we turned in our room keys at 11:02am), we had a very nice farewell goodbye to Michael and Little Bit and hit the road heading for Flagstaff, Arizona at 11:25am.

Mapquest / Google Maps call it a 206.1 mile trip with a driving time of  3 hours and 13 minutes.

Seldom (as in VERY seldom – read : Never ) do we even come close to the trip times.

(Drum Roll please)

Dum De Dum Dum

PART 2 .. We arrive at our Motel 6 in Flagstaff (after a perfect trip).

Into the Motel 6 on East Butler Avenue I walk and handed the desk clerk my driver’s license and my credit card.

“Sir. We have NO reservation for you Sir.”

After a few minutes of back and forth (me giving her my Motel 6 reservation confirmation number and the price I was quoted etc) discussion we reached the conclusion that I had come to the wrong Motel 6 and that I needed to go to a neighboring property only 5 minutes away on East Lucky Lane.

Important : The cost of my reservation (made with Motel 6, NOT some other travel firm) was ..

(1) $194.28 for (2) FOUR nights.

Out and off I went from the East Butler property to the Lucky Lane property.

In I went and handed the desk clerk my driver’s license and my credit card. Now I (yours truly, your very own Captain) made a mistake. I told the desk clerk I wanted to change my reservation (1) $194.28 for (2) FOUR nights to THREE nights.

I did this because I did not want to pay for the four nights at $194.28 and then have to get a credit back for the fourth night we were not going to stay.

So far so good. Everyone (the Butler property and the Lucky Lane property) including me were polite and calm and understanding.

“Sir your new rate will be $288.”

“What? I switch from FOUR nights paying $194.28 to THREE nights paying $288.18 !!”

“I should have paid you the $194.28 and just NOT stayed the fourth night. This is ridiculous. I am paying you ninety three dollars and ninety cents ($93.90) MORE for staying ONE LESS NIGHT !”

I spent one and one half hours (1 – 1/2 hours) with this challenge !

The first problem was that when I told the Lucky Lane clerk to cancel the 4th night my original reservation was cancelled in total and a new reservation was made AND the original reservation dropped off their online portal. So I could NOT (even going to my own Motel 6 website) show the Lucky Lane clerk what I was originally quoted.

Part of the time (1 – 1/2 hours) to resolve this was because I could NOT get onto the internet at the Lucky Lane property, in spite of the desk clerk and a trusted computer savvy associate and my best efforts, we could not get onto the internet.

BOTTOM LINE : At all times, everyone (the Butler property staff and the Lucky Lane property staff and me) was polite and calm and understanding.

RESOLUTION : We totally cancelled out the Lucky Lane reservation. I rebooked a new reservaton at the Butler Avenue property.

NEW DEAL : (1) $218.11 for (2) THREE nights. I am still paying an additional $23.83 all because I removed one night from our stay !!

I AM STILL WAITING .. FOR LIFE TO GET EASY .. IT’S NOT HAPPENING

PART 3 .. The Rest of the Day, April 3rd 2022

On a zero (0) to ten (10) scale the rest of the day was easily a twenty (20).

Patti and I headed for the High Country. 10,000 feet elevation at the Arizona Snow Bowl.

Yes it was (for us desert rats) a very cold 48°F on our truck thermometer.

Just look at the snow up at 10,000 feet.

Have I already said that .. I AM STILL WAITING .. FOR LIFE TO GET EASY .. IT’S NOT HAPPENING

NOW I AM having either internet issues or problems with my own website so I am going to print this and it’ll be 100% better than no post at all.

Cap and Patti

Post Script : It is now 2:30am in the morning and time to go to bed.

  1. Gullible

Another madcap adventure for Cap and Patti. I think, based on my experience for the past three months, that Murphy’s Law has left me alone for a bit and descended upon you.

There is no option for comments on your newer post about the NCAA. I tuned in just a couple minutes before the end of the half and I would not have bet 2 cents on Kansas then. Wow! What a comeback!
