JUN 6, 22 .. OUR VERY OWN, VERY PERSONAL, D-DAY .. PART 1

Today’s script was : Get out of our home in Royal Oak, Michigan with all of our baggage at 5am. Go to Detroit Metro Airport (DTW). Get our boarding passes, get our baggage checked, go through security, get to our gate (hopefully very early so there is no DRAMA as to timing) and relax as we looked forward to our 8:30am flight to Seattle, Washington, and then North To Anchorage, Alaska from Seattle.

REALITY : Check .. We left Royal Oak early at 4:50am. Check .. We arrived at DTW at 5:45am perfect. Check .. We got our boarding passes and checked our luggage and were processed through security and we headed off for our gate at 6:10am for our 8:30am flight.

PERFECT .. ABSOLUTELY, LETTER, PERFECT .. NOTHING COULD HAVE POSSIBLY GONE BETTER OR SMOOTHER. ALL WAS WONDERFUL.

Dum Dee DUM DUM ..

The beginning of Airline Flights and Airport DRAMA.

En route to our boarding gate, Patti’s wheelchair attendant casually mentioned that our flight had been delayed until 11am.

Then, shortly after we arrived at our departure gate around 6:20am ..

There was a announcement : Due to mechanical difficulties, your flight has been delayed until 12pm.

So at 6:20am we were looking at a 5 – 1/2 hour wait !!

The good news was : Originally we had a 7 – 1/2 hour layover in Seattle. Now we only had a 3 hour wait in Seattle.

At 10:30am the other shoe dropped !!

Ladies and Gentlemen in the waiting area, your flight has now been delayed until 4pm.

The BAD NEWS : This meant that we would NOT make our 5:40pm Anchorage connection in Seattle.

What to do? I went to the Delta Airlines Service desk, and after waiting in line for 45 minutes, I was told that the earliest we could get a flight from Seattle to Anchorage was Thursday. We discussed several options. One was fly from Detroit to Minneapolis tomorrow Tuesday. Then fly from Minneapolis to Anchorage Wednesday. I also asked them what our options were as to overnight hotel costs. This became a gray area and I was told that after arriving in Seattle or Minneapolis we would have to discuss hotel options at that point.

After much hand wringing and debate, Patti and I have decided to stand pat, and wait to see IF the 4pm flight happens. Then proceed.

More to Follow ?? Only The Shadow Knows.

Still Smiling .. Cap and Patti

So sorry to know my globe trekkers are facing this hurdle. It’s not easy at our age. WTH (What The Heck) is going on with our infrastructure.. air flights canceled at the rate they occur? What ever became of the air carrier’s responsibilities to pay for a nearby hotel? I pray a miracle happens to carry you folks safely to Alaska w/o making it a 3-4da trip to the ends of time!!! And I hope you’re feeling better. It will make it easier to get through this Mystery! “More will be revealed!”
    Love and hugs

Thanks Eva for checking out our website. We really appreciate your interest. This was not a fun and games trip, it was one that I (more or less) absolutely had to make. And here we sit in Detroit Metro Airport (DTW). Cap and Patti
