Today’s adventure, began yesterday, July the 18th. Back on July 12th, when the Home Depot crew came here to our Condo to install our brand new washer/dryer combination, they couldn’t do so because the on/off, hot/cold water valves into our washer/dryer, being 40 years old, were completely non-functional. If you can’t turn off the water, you can’t remove the old washer/dryer hoses and install the new unit because to do so, would flood our condo with water !

Monday, July 18th.

At 10am, Bill, our maintenance guru who Patti has known and worked with for 32 years, and his able assistant Bryan, arrived at our Condo to remove and replace the on/off water valves into our washer/dryer. Last Friday, the five other families living in our Condo were formally and officially notified that today there would be a short period in the morning when the water in the building would be off. Bill and Bryan, the ultimate professionals, were in and out in less than one hour.

Tuesday, July 19th.

Knowing the hours (6am to 8pm) that the Home Depot crew would be at our Condo, we went to sleep with our smartphones turned on.

At 7:52am this morning, sure enough, our phone rang. I was told by the Home Depot crew that they would be here in 15 minutes. Luckily I had been up briefly at 7:30am so I was NOT sound asleep.

Below is a photo of the U-HAUL truck they arrived in last Tuesday.

In the below photo snapped today, it looks to me like the same U-HAUL truck they had a week ago. Pretty funny the Home Depot renting a U-HAUL truck for their deliveries.

The time has come for our dearly beloved washer/dryer, a household appliance that has been an important part of our lives for some 32 years, to leave us forever !

For a 40 year old unit, it still looks very nice doesn’t it ? We take very good care of our appliances.

I greatly enjoyed being able to watch how these professionals handled a large and bulky item.

They made it look like a feather. I couldn’t even budge it when it was sitting in its enclosure.

In the below photo, you can clearly see the harness between them that they employed to move it with such ease.

My last view of our beloved washer/dryer.

The brand new washer/dryer.

That has been living in our bedroom for the past week.

Now in place in its very own enclosure.

We were very, as in VERY, impressed with the Home Depot crew. I gave them a $20 gratuity that they were shocked and very pleased to receive. They said they don’t get much appreciation for what they do.

And off the two of them drove.

A Day In Our Lives.

    Cap, Patti,
believe it or not but this page’s become a source of ideas for my graduate to create questions on the topic “Purchasing smth”. The task was about delivery :-)… Many ideas, some new and really interesting word expressions!
Your pages are a manual to study the language with a native for both of us.
    Thank you VERY MUCH!
Misha (my graduate) and I wish your new washer/dryer will serve you faithfully for another 40 years :-)

Both the installers, as well as the Home Depot store staff, were great to work with. When they couldn’t install the unit during their first visit, because the on/off hot/cold water valves were worn out, that was on us not on Home Depot. So had they charged an additional fee for having to return for a second visit, we couldn’t have complained. No additional charge for the second visit. Yes indeed, the old unit was still functioning after 40 years BUT it’s time was coming and we made the right call to get a new unit. Thanks for your comment Eryn. Aunt Patti and Cap
