FEB 24, 23 .. ATTITUDE .. AN INTERESTING SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE

A very cute kitty from Kitty in South Dakota!

Attitude .. Charles Swindoll ..

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company … a church … a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is to play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude … I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you … we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

As Patti and I were leaving the Shea Campus of the Mayo Clinic yesterday, Thursday the 23rd of February, and heading for the parking garage, we came upon, we overtook, an elderly gentleman who with a cane (here comes a vast understatement) was walking very VERY slowly. Of course, at the Mayo Clinic, there are quite a few patients that fit this profile. Some people would put me into that category! For reasons unknown to me, I stopped beside him and asked him IF he needed any assistance. He declined (as most males will do if offered assistance) but I began to walk with him towards the elevators. I did my own little study later here at our motel, and we were walking at a rate of about 40, very VERY SMALL steps per minute. We made some small talk as he was VERY alert and cognitive. By now I knew his name (Leo) and his age (94 as he was born in April of 1929). Further I LIKED Leo. He had some “spunk”. He even said these words to both Patti and me : “Maybe I shouldn’t be driving but I feel very secure driving.”

We got to the elevator and went down to the underground parking lot. He said goodbye to me and I said I was going to see him find, get into, and back out of his parking place. Let me assure all of you, it took some time to find his car. I was no help (Leo said it is light tan) but we finally got to it. I then waited until he was seated and ready to back out and then as he slowly backed out, I assisted him by stopping the traffic flow. Finally off he slowly drove.

My Spiritual Experience : I told Patti : “The next slow driver I get behind in traffic, I am going to say to myself, “Maybe it is Leo who is driving and I will be patient and polite to the driver.”

A CHANGE IN DRIVING ATTITUDE ! A Spiritual Experience !

A very short synopsis of yesterday, Thursday the 23rd of February :

Patti with two, and me with three, together we two had five (5) Mayo appointments. Do you have any clue how tiring and stressful five medical appointments in one day can be?

My swallowing issue appointments :

10:15am .. Neurology Pathology Consultation, Department of Neurology. This was a great appointment. It was really the beginning of the below 11:30am appointment. The two appointments “went together”.

In my Post yesterday I wrote :

11:30am Fluoroscopic Swallow Function Exam, Department of Radiology. I am not exactly “looking forward” to this experience because it sounds like I will have to “swallow a mini-camera” or something similar.

I was WRONG. It was an extremely easy procedure. I did NOT have to swallow any type of  instrument (large or miniscule). I DID have to swallow some liquids and foods (crackers that were covered with a barium paste) but they were easy to swallow. The medical staff and myself then simply watched the things I was swallowing as they “went into and down my esophagus”. This test was ordered by my gastroenterologist for my concerns with my swallowing. He will address this next Tuesday the 28th during my Upper Endoscopy Procedure.

12:45pm .. Patti had an EKG

1:45pm Sleep Medicine Appointment. This was a great appointment and it preceded my overnight-in-the-hospital sleep study that I will undergo next Wednesday March the 1st. With this appointment I now have a Mayo Clinic Sleep Medicine Doctor.

4:40pm .. Patti had a blood draw.

Then I gave a 30 minute “lead” at a 6pm meeting.

I crashed into bed early.

Today, Friday the 24th of February :

I was up early at 6am to write and publish a post. The internet at our motel would not cooperate. So I sent the below post.

FEB 24, 23 .. INTERNET CHALLENGES ..

Wi-Fi yes .. Wi-Fi no ..

6:40am, in Phoenix, Arizona, February the 24th.

I am writing these few words from the front office of our motel here in Phoenix where I can get online.

However, I am unable to access the internet in my room.

I have an issue with our truck’s right rear tire and I must get it resolved. As in NOW.

See you later when things come together.

At 7am this morning, I was at Walmart to get a Walmart purchased tire, with a non-repairable sidewall leak, fixed. They said come back at 11am because all they do from 7am to 11am is oil changes. I asked if they take appointments. NO they don’t.

I went to Discount Tires WHO DO tires. In an hour I had two new tires. From this point forward my tire source is Discount Tires. Sam’s and Costco sell tires but aren’t necessarily there when you have on-the-road tire issues.

  1. Gullible

How very kind of you to accompany Leo on his walk and how wonderful that Leo is still able to live his life.

I hope all your medical appointments resulted in some good news to the both of you.

With regard to Leo five words say-it-all : To Feel Good DO Good. I felt very good as I was helping Leo.

Over all yes, we pretty much have good news Gullible. Some of the good news is based upon “live with it” and / or “accept what is IS” the medical community world wide does NOT have anything close to 100% of the answers to all medical conditions beginning with why did my ear begin to bleed with great pain.
