JUL 24, 23 .. IT’S IN THE BOOK : FOR BY THIS TIME SANITY WILL HAVE RETURNED

An Unofficial “dotnet Category” : I Can Still Tell On Myself

NUMBERS

On MAY 11, 23, I first introduced the Category of “Numbers” here on dotnet.  In our recent JUL 18, 23, Post we showed the below photo of the odometer in our truck.

This past Saturday, as Patti and I were leaving the Chair 5 Restaurant in Girdwood, Alaska..

Backing out of our parking space, I DID NOT photograph them, but I idly noticed our odometer reading.

1 7 1 7 9 8 . 5

Do any of you see “Where my mind went?” regarding the above odometer reading?

In 1.5 miles, the odometer would read : 1 7 1 8 0 0 . 0

Then in 19 miles it would read : 1 7 1 8 1 9 . 0

Poor Patti has to live with me and my mind!

I knew that, heading North to Anchorage (40 miles away) we would be on the very (as in VERY) busy Seward Highway. However there are a number of places (parking and viewing areas) where you can very comfortably turn off. So I said to myself : “I will keep my eye on the odometer and when we approach 171818, IF BY CHANCE there IS a turn off, I WILL turn off and photograph it.”

Well Guess What ? With the odometer reading 171818.8 a perfect turn out appeared on the right side of the road! I comfortably turned off and rolled to a stop with the odometer reading 1 7 1 8 1 9 . 0 .

I’ll bet you all have completely, and you all have totally, forgotten the title of this Post. Here it is.

JUL 24, 23 .. IT’S IN THE BOOK : FOR BY THIS TIME SANITY WILL HAVE RETURNED

Patti asked why we had turned off into the rest area, “Is something wrong with the car?”

FOR BY THIS TIME SANITY WILL HAVE RETURNED

I pondered the situation for a few seconds, explained the odometer reading, and being of sound mind, I said to Patti, “Where does this lead to?”

NOT TAKING A PHOTO of 171819.0 we rested a few minutes and proceeded home to our Condo!

Will this be the last ever odometer reading I ever photograph? Probably not! BUT I am not going to make it a habit to be driving and looking for upcoming odometer readings!

BECAUSE SANITY RETURNED TO ME.

By the way, I won’t go there, but I did wonder just why the absolutely perfect pull out happened to occur precisely where it appeared. Kathleen, could it have been that it was a Gift From The Universe?

YESTERDAY’S NEWSPAPER

With regard to Saturday’s JUL 22, 23, dotnet Post, Sunday Ginny sent us the below great photo of Tom and her at the Bubba Gump Restaurant in Laughlin. The below photo was taken during a previous dinner at Bubba Gump.

So I went back to Saturday’s Post and added it to “Yesterday’s Newspaper”. Yes, the one few people go back in time to read.

What??! I can’t believe you didn’t take a picture. The universe aligned to give you the perfect opportunity to take that picture. The universe wanted you to take that picture. You know what they say: Pictures or it never happened! (whoever “they” are).

What can I say – I love numbers like that. For example, at the end of this year, the date (in the US) will be 123123. It’s poetry to me.

Well Kathleen, long pause, I truly debated the question : To Be or Not To Be, Snap a photo or not? Knowing myself I just asked myself, “Where will this end? On a road trip, watching the odometer, and hoping there will be a safe place to pull over when the number I am looking for arrives.” And I decided no I am not going there. I hear you about The Universe Kathleen ! Smiles. Thanks for your comment. Cap and Patti

I see your point. One leads to another which leads to another. I have made that same call on other things. :-) I never catch these kinds of serendipity because it’s something I don’t really pay attention to. I watch the mileage to see if it’s time for an oil change or service work which is nothing special. I am glad your sanity returned.

Yes. I had reached the point of asking : When does this stop. I decided NOW. BUT (the old “yeah but”) I could have taken the photo and posted it and then said that is the end of this. Actually now I wish I had taken a photo BUT that option has passed and I am not going to revisit it. Smiles .. Cap and Patti
