JAN 7, 24 (2/2) .. FROM FROSTBITE FRANK

From Frostbite Frank.

Beginning yesterday, Saturday, January the 6th, and continuing today Sunday, January the 7th, Frostbite Frank is “on the fly” and I mean literally.

Basically he will be going from San Jose, Costa Rica, to La Jolla, California, to Italy over the next 4 days.

He will go to La Jolla, California, for 3 days of medical appointments. Then he will fly to Italy on January the 10th where he will tour around until April the 10th. He will then return to La Jolla for more medical appointments.

He texted us the following:

Thank you for staying in touch Cap and Patti, Gracias, e Grazie!  I’ve been studying Italian, using Babbel, and it has completely messed up my Spanish.  I think I now speak Spatalian as a second language!

I went souvenir shopping for friends, but I had disappointing results.  I’m not bringing back any gifts for friends.  All the “Recuerdo de Costa Rica” things I’ve seen this trip also say “Made in China,” except for tee shirts.  They all say “Hecho en Philipines” or “Product of Vietnam.”

I was kind of surprised: the last time I was in Jacó there were lots of cottage-industry souvenirs: carved wood, ceramics, metal things, and trinkets.  This trip there were 3 or 4 custom jewelry stores and a gob of custom bathing suit stores, all featuring apparel made from less than 6 square inches of fabric and 4 feet of string.

I note that I didn’t see a single person wearing a local bathing suit on the beach.  I followed my usual deference to etiquette, of course, and only looked at the parts covered by fabric (I don’t want to embarrass anyone by staring), so I’m sure I would have noticed if anyone was wearing a locally-made bathing suit instead of the one from Costco that they brought with them.

Let the party begin!  I just received a notice that my flight from San José, Costa Rica to Panama City was canceled.  After 2 hours on the phone I now have a new series of flights, leaving at 8:46 tomorrow Sunday.

I cancelled my hotel in Panama City (no refund) and my cab rides to-from the hotel (half-charge: booking.com requires 12 hours notice for canceling a cab).

The Copa Airlines guy says it’s a shame I had to spend all that money canceling reservations, but no, Copa is not responsible for arrangements made without consulting them so no reimbursement will be forthcoming.

When Oh When does it get easy Frank!

Cap and Patti and yes! All of Your Allies here on dotnet.
