APR 2, 24 .. APRIL HERE WE COME..

Thanks to Ginny, let’s begin with some fun. In 1941, Walt Disney released the movie Dumbo. In the movie was a song titled “Pink Elephants On Parade”. I can hear it this instant.

A few lines ..

Pink elephants on parade
Here they come!
Hippety hoppety
They’re here and there
Pink elephants everywhere!

They’re walking around the bed
On their head
Clippity cloppity
Arrayed in braid
Pink elephants on parade

I can stand the sight of worms
And look at microscopic germs
But technicolor pachyderms
Is really too much for me!

I do NOT have any Pink Elephants to show you BUT Ginny sent me a few very interesting Elephants to view. Notice their pink Converse High Top Running Shoes.

We wonder IF Gullible has seen them on her trips to Africa.

Ginny has a fun, long, complex story to tell about them that dates back years.

Thanks so very much Ginny.

NATIONAL TODAY IS WHAT DAY?

So far, I am still finding this topic to be of interest.

What on earth is DIY DAY?

NATIONAL DIY DAY ..  If you are a do-it-yourself kind of person, National DIY Day is your day to strut your stuff. Whether you finally tackle a project or feel like creating new projects, DIY Day is your day to share your love for making things. Our goal is to encourage everyone to find joy in getting things done yourself!

NATIONAL PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY DAY ..  On April 2nd each year, National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day celebrates a classic food favorite. The average American will have eaten over 2000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches by the time they graduate from high school.

Peanut butter was considered a delicacy in the early 1900s and was only served in New York City’s finest tea rooms. In a May 1896 article published in the Good Housekeeping magazine, a recipe “urged homemakers to use a meat grinder to make peanut butter and spread the result on bread.” That same year, in June, the culinary magazine Table Talk, published a “peanut butter sandwich recipe.”

HAVASU LANDING CASINO

Yesterday was Monday. On Monday, my neighbor Eddie and I take the Lake Havasu Ferry to the Casino at Havasu Landing, California.

Guess What? Judging from the line waiting to board the ferry boat, Eddie and I are NOT the only ones who ride our local ferry boat over to the Havasu Landing Casino.

Ah Yes! Please notice that is was, yet another wonderful day, here in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

So off we sailed across Lake Havasu heading for Havasu Landing, California.

And then our ferry slowed down. And began to turn around.

Long story short. One of the boats Life Rings had fallen overboard. We will never know why, but there it was, swimming in Lake Havasu.

Our ferry today was the TECOPA.

Come home to the ship Life Ring!

A crew member “snared” it.

We were twenty minutes late arriving at the Casino.

To put it very mildly, I had an interesting day with Rocky, the only slot machine I played today.

My game plan has been to play $20 for 40 spins at 50 cents each. My mission has been to “lose” no more than $5.

My first four games.

I played $15. I won $20.50. I was “ahead” by $5.50.

Because My Plan has been to play $20, I opted to play an additional $5.

I won only $0.74. So having played a total of $20 I had won $21.24. So I was actually “ahead” and “in the black” by $1.24.

Then the gambling “compulsion” got a grip on me. Translation : I had the “feeling” that Rocky was “due” for a large payoff.

I played another $5. I won only $0.32. So I had now played $25 and won $21.56. My “loss” was now $3.44. I was still ahead of my goal to “lose” not more than $5.

I played another $5. I won $5.59. So now I had played $30 and my “loss” was $2.85. So I was still well within my mission to “lose” less than $5.

I played another $5. I won $0.44. So I had played $35 and won $27.59. Now my “loss” was $7.41.

My “feeling” that Rocky was “due” for a large payoff WAS WRONG!!

And That Was That for Monday the 1st of April.

I had a “grand outing on a glorious day” with Eddie.

It cost me $7.41 and was well worth it!

I can really understand, right down to tips of my tippy toes, how people get “consumed with the compulsion, the “Sirene Call” (a group of female and partly human creatures in Greek mythology that lured mariners to destruction by their singing. A woman who sings with enchanting sweetness) to continue gambling rather than stop at a “loss” goal.

I played $2.50 and won $11.51. I played $2.50 and won $5.30. I played $5 and won $5.59. Total I played $10 and won $22.40. Great.

I played $5 and won $0.90. I played $5 and won $0.74. I played $5 and won $o.44. Total I played $15 and I won $2.08. Poor!

Can I afford to lose $7.41? Yes! You Betcha I Can!

I am fascinated at the mechanics of the gambling addiction.

From Gullible, we now have her Part 3 final writing about her experience during the March 27th, 1964 Alaskan Earthquake.

It is a great read! Thanks Gullible!

Happy April to my two most favorite adventurers!
I am not much of a gambler….both with slot machines, and dating! lol So, no risk, no pain is my motto. 30yro, I used to play the one-armed bandits and often you could find a nickell poker machine, play $10-20 and BOOM! It was fairly common to hit a Royal Flush and win $150-200. Not today. So I choose to not risk much on those confusing, over-whelming computerized spinning wheels and circuit boards that rarely pay much.
But I will drop $30 a few times a year on playing the Lottery! I haven’t even come close to having the winning numbers, yet. But I am willing to get 10 chances to win $1.09 billion. We’ll see if Lady Luck or my ‘luck of the Irish’ prevail. More will be revealed. I’ll let you know how that works out! lol
Loving you, Cap and Patti, my dear friends!

Thanks Michael for your comment and April wishes. Late this month we will head back North to Alaska. As I have mentioned in another comment to Gullible, I am finding it very interesting looking at what draws me, and satisfies me and I enjoy, in particular going back to the slot machines and “feeling I am due for a big hit”. I am not after money. I DO enjoy hanging out with Eddie and yes I AM enjoying the slot machines. Does The Shadow Know. Smiles .. Cap

Dumbo hallucinated after taking a drink of water, water that was spiked with champagne. I’ve seen no pink elephants in Africa because I do not have delerium tremens or alcoholic hallucinosis, despite have the occasional G&T or Amarula on the Rocks.

Fun photos from Ginny, however. And yes, the psychology of gambling is quite interesting. Is it the possibility of getting something for nothing or thinking THIS TIME I can beat it?

Right on Gullible. Dumbo AND Timothy Q. Mouse imbibed some alcohol and here came the Pink Elephants on Parade. Such a tender movie. Being “in the moment” and looking at the slot machine issue I can’t say just why I myself (along with others) want to “go one more game or two with a slot machine”. I don’t want and I don’t need the money. Interesting Gullible. Cap

Ginny I didn’t have a clue as to what to write about you and Sam and April Fools Day 39 years ago so I remained “mummm”. Fun story. Cap
