APR 8, 24 .. SOLAR ECLIPSE DAY..

Just in case you are NOT aware of it .. Today, April the 8th, 2024 is..

Now for some “details”.

IF you have been trying to follow it all ..

You will know (see the above link) the actual Total Solar Eclipse will only be seen by a relatively “narrow band” across the United States.

BUT ..

From what I can gather, my home city, Detroit, Michigan, will be viewing an “almost” complete Total Solar Eclipse!

Here in Arizona, it will be relatively far to the East, of us cutting across the Eastern part of Texas.

NATIONAL TODAY IS WHAT DAY ?

NATIONAL ZOO LOVERS DAY  .. Each year on April 8th, National Zoo Lovers Day encourages us to explore our local zoos. Each year millions of people visit zoos and learn about the many animals that live there. Also known as zoological parks, many of them serve as breeding centers. These facilities are relied upon when species are endangered or at risk of becoming endangered. They also provide education to the public about a broad variety of animals and their habitats.

Today is Monday.

Today IS SLOT MACHINE DAY for my neighbor Eddie and me.

My interest in slot machines began up in Laughlin, Nevada, at the Edgewater Hotel, back around December of 2021. 

We learned that, if we signed up for a membership in the True Rewards Program, we would accumulate points. With points come benefits such as reduced rates on Edgewater Hotel Room rates. The very best way to get the points is to play the slot machines. There are absolutely no “stipulations” as to how many points you must accumulate to get the various bonuses. Only that you must accumulate some points every 13 months.

So Shamrock became “Our Slot Machine” at the Edgewater.

I have been thinking a lot about my relationship with the slot machines. Right now I have a pretty firm plan. I plan to bet $20 which is 40 games at 50 cents a game (a spin on the slot machine). I do NOT spend the $20. Some people will spend $20 until it is totally spent. I don’t do this. I play 40 spins and of course win at least some dollars. So far each trip has been costing me somewhere between $4 to $5 per Monday.

New insight.

In terms of this slot machine playing getting “out of hand” (becoming a gambling addiction) the following thought came up. Eddie and I catch the 2pm boat to the Casino. We arrive at about 2:25pm. We go into the Havasu Landing Casino and play until “around” 3:15pm then get in line for the 3:30pm boat back to Lake Havasu City. 

Do all of you “Get it”? Our total time playing the slot machines is around 45 minutes.

In 45 minutes you are NOT POSSIBLY going to lose much money. 

The serious compulsively addicted Gamblers will spend hour upon hour playing the slot machines.

Bottom Line : I really and I truly enjoy my outings with Eddie. I enjoy the lovely ferry boat rides over and back. And I enjoy seeing just how Rocky Balboa will treat me!

I’ll let you know tomorrow how it went today. I really am looking forward to seeing how I do. In fact I “can hardly wait” to see how I do.

By the way, the Havasu Landing Players Card points are minimal and not worth much at all. A few free games every now and then.

At the Edgewater we actually get reduced room rates which is nice.

By the way, yesterday we spent the afternoon with about 30 good friends here in Lake Havasu.  The occasion was to celebrate the 70th birthday of the wife of the host couple.  It was a very upbeat, warm and thoroughly enjoyable gathering and we came home feeling grateful to have been invited!
