Because a lot of us are Senior Citizens, maybe we should ask..
“Do all of you have an Amazon Kindle?”
If you have one, you have an EBOOK, aka an Electronic Book. Gullible introduced Patti to the Amazon Kindle, nine years ago in 2015, and Patti has been an avid fan since day one.
Read An eBook Day is observed every September 18 to celebrate the 24/7 reading accessibility and ease that ebooks offer.
Can you imagine that the idea of an ebook was born in 1930!
However it wasn’t until 41 years later that it came into existence!
The idea of an ebook was born in 1930 after Rob Brown watched his first talkie — movies with sound. He introduced this idea in his manifesto, explaining what he envisioned the future for books should look like.
In 1949, a Spanish teacher, Angela Ruiz Robles invented the first automated book reader, the Enciclopedia Mecánica. Texts and graphics were loaded onto the device using spools and operated with compressed air. Robles’ idea of an automated reader was born out of the desire to reduce the number of books that kids had to carry to school every day. However, the device never went into mass production, and the prototype ended up at the National Museum of Science and Technology in A Coruña.
Despite Robles’ invention, it would take 22 years for the first ebook to appear, and that was by a stroke of luck and the introduction of the internet.
After being given unprecedented computer time, Michael Hart decided to type his copy of the Declaration of Independence into a computer in plain text. He then shared it on the ARPANET to be freely downloaded by everyone. That led to the founding of Project Gutenberg, which focused on creating electronic copies of texts and publications.
The late 1980s and the 2000s saw different inventions and innovations that helped shape the ebook into what it is today, including the introduction of the first e-readers, standardization of ebook formats, and online ebook stores.
In 2014, OverDrive (a business source of free ebooks, audiobooks & magazines from your library) got the idea to create a day to celebrate the existence of ebooks. That eventually led to the annual celebration of Read An Ebook Day every September 18.

Unlike print books, you don’t have to cut down trees to publish ebooks. Also, you don’t need a dedicated room or library to store ebooks.
With your smartphone, e-reader, or tablet, you can store hundreds of ebooks, placing information at your fingertips.
Due to the limitations imposed by publishers and copyright, it’s not possible to print an entire ebook. However, you can print a percentage of the ebook for your reading.
Since ebooks are available online, you can quickly go to an online store, search for the latest book from your favorite author, and buy and download it in less than 10 minutes. However, not every time but sometimes, Patti has issues with ebook sources. We won’t “name names here”!
Fiction is the highest-selling ebook genre.
Every month, about 56,000 ebooks are self-published and released for reader’s consumption.
Only 7% of the American adult population only read ebooks. Patti also loves to curl up with both her hard cover and paperback books.

I have often wondered, as I look over rack after rack of Greeting Cards in the store, what it must be like to create them.
People who are skilled at penning down just the right words at the right time are indeed special.
Please don’t ask either Patti or me how on this good earth we would find a writer of Greeting Cards.

We laugh, cry, and feel all sorts of mushy things; let’s give back to the writers who give us the words to express these feelings. This day is held each year on September 18 to honor the talents of these amazing writers. While we still don’t know who created this day, we are all in for this celebration.
Exchanging greeting cards is a custom that started in ancient times. Records indicate the Ancient Chinese would exchange messages of goodwill during the New Year. There have even been papyrus scrolls that the Ancient Egyptians used as ‘greeting cards.
Very Interesting. Among the early greeting card business firms was the Hall Brothers card company — later rebranded to Hallmark — which initially crafted picture postcards. Founded by Joyce Clyde Hall and his brother in Kansas City, Hall Brothers card company had a good run for about five years until sales declined. Then, they turned to making greeting cards, and chose the term ‘hallmark’ as it was used by goldsmiths to describe a “mark of quality.” Hallmark was also the first company to display cards on shelves standing up. Before this, they were put in drawers. Now, the world is going paperless, but greeting cards are still used in many countries, with America holding one of the top spots.

On an average, greeting-card writers in the US make $51,000 a year, and in New York and San Francisco, they earn close to $70,000.
Hallmark does not accept or purchase unsolicited submissions of ideas, artwork, photography, or writing for their greeting cards.
70% of people include their pet’s names on greeting cards.
At one point — in 2010 — a survey revealed that around 170 billion greeting cards were sent per year in America.
High Dollar Greeting Cards. Gilded Age Greetings sells custom-made greetings cards priced around $395-$4,995; some are even embroidered with real gold!
Smiling. No where, in any way, did National Today or National Day Calendar tell us how to contact actual professional Greeting Card Writers.

I’ve always loved sending greeting cards, a tradition my mom started many many years ago. My mom took ordinary days to send me a card simply to say I love you and am praying for you and she always included a Bible verse for encouragement and I always lived geographically close to my mom, but she knew that getting what I now call “happy mail” was so important, therefore I too enjoy making someone smile and feel good by sending a card!

I don’t believe it! You missed National Cheeseburger Day!
With our National Today “Days” we stress that the “Day” is something that we know about and are interested in.
I love Hamburgers. I crave Hamburgers. Give me In-N-Out Burgers. Dial me up Whoppers and double Whoppers and triple Whoppers. Hand me a bag of White Castle Burgers. I will step right up for McDonald’s quarter pounders.
BUT .. I most definitely, absolutely, positively do NOT eat Cheeseburgers Gullible. I can’t recall ever, in my lifetime, eating a Cheeseburger. I am NOT a Cheeseburger aficionado!! No! No way. So we did not miss seeing the Cheeseburger Day! Smiling .. Cap.
Yeah, only recently have I eaten cheeseburgers. And only when I have just the burger patty and cheese, no buns or salad ingredients.

I am a big Kindle fan. I have Amazon kindle on my phone so when I am waiting, like at a doctor’s office or restaurant, I can easily read to pass the time (as opposed to staring at others-although I do occasionally enjoy people watching). When I flew, it was wonderful because once the book is downloaded, I can read it without internet service. I can read for hours so flights pass much quicker. My current reading streak on my phone is 321 weeks in a row, so about 6.17 years. Only 242 days in a row though. It must have been a very busy day and I was even too tired to read at bedtime. I almost always read a bit at bedtime if it isn’t a gory or scary book but several times throughout the day when I need a break.
I have accessed Project Gutenburg before. They have an amazing range. I also have used Overdrive to rent books from the library. I now use Libby as Overdrive is no longer around.
The other benefit of having Kindle on my phone is I don’t run the risk of forgetting to bring my book, having to find room in my luggage to pack books or even worse, leaving the book somewhere. Also I can keep my purse small. A bigger purse ends up with more stuff until it’s heavy enough to make my shoulder hurt.
