We got to see a process that we have never, in Patti’s 30 plus years here, seen.

HOT AIR BALLOONS..

Don’t forget that NATIONAL TODAY / NATIONAL DAY CALENDAR.. Are the sources of most, but not 100%, of the information on our various “Days”.

We do not just pick “Days” at random to just be picking “Days”.

For us to select a day (this is the first “Day” in four days) we have to have a personal interest in it.

Beginning on Friday, January the 21st, 2022, at 8:43am, when I snapped the below photograph from the Windsor Inn Motel, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Patti and I have had a real relationship with Hot Air Balloons!

For two years, beginning in January 2023, I have been a volunteer beginning with the January 2023, 12th Annual Lake Havasu City Balloon Festival.

I am already “signed up” as a volunteer for the upcoming January 9th through the 12th, 2025, Balloon Festival.

Now we will look at the Number One Hot Air Balloon Festival in the world held annually in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The 2024 festival begins Today!

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is a nine-day event that occurs annually in the first full week of October. It begins on a Saturday and this year, it is held from October 5 to 13. This hot air balloon festival takes place in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta began in 1972 with a total of 13 balloons. Since its humble beginning, it has since become the largest balloon event in the world. Now there are about 600 balloons and 700 pilots that feature at The Balloon Fiesta.

It is the most photographed event on earth, and the largest annual international event held in the United States.

The first gathering of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta was held in a parking lot. The following year the “First World Hot Air Balloon Championship” took place and 13 countries took part. This was held at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds.

By 1978 there were 273 entries and as the years went by the number of balloons steadily increased. In 2000 there were more than 1,000 balloons registered for the Balloon Fiesta.

There is now a cap on the number of balloons that can participate as there is limited landing site availability. In 1993 and 1999, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta hosted the annual Coupe de Gordon Bennett. The Coupe de Gordon Bennett is the world’s oldest and most prestigious gas balloon race, it dates back to 1912.

Albuquerque Balloon Festival Tid-Bits..

The first hot air balloon called “Aerostat Reveillon” was launched on September 19, 1783, by scientist Pilatre De Rozier.

Joseph and Etienne Montgolfier launched the balloon on November 21, 1783, which flew for 20 minutes.

Hot air balloons cannot fly in rain because the Balloons become much heavier and harder to control.

The first balloon fiesta was watched by 10,000 people, today up to 100,000 spectators may be watching on the launch field, and hundreds of thousands more fans watching from outlying areas and on T.V.

In 2017 Balloon Fiesta Live! was launched, enabling fans to live stream the event. This professionally produced live stream has an expert commentary of all the flying events.

Wowie! A very VERY nice “Day”.

Oh your leaves are so beautiful decorating with their hues of red, orange and yellow. Magnificent!
My leaves are still here, but just a little. Most turned while we were busy getting Tim “repaired at Rochester. ” Thank God for Mayo, and frankly if you hadn’t thought so highly of your various services there, I don’t that we would’ve known enough to push to go. So a HUGE thank you to you both for always taking the time to educate us here about the amazing work of Mayo. Tim is free of cancer and repairing well. Another trek Monday to check and remove some tools. 9 hour drive is met with Mayo angels. Oh, and i love Trader Joes! We don’t have one in South Dakota.
Be well, and keep up the great posts!
    Forever grateful,
    Kit
