eGIFT CARDS

Just in case you didn’t see, or read, yesterdays Post about electronic eGift Cards and QR Codes (if you dare to do so) you can click onto the below link..

I am here to shout.. All of the angst, the agony, the frustration (at least as of now as I sit here at my laptop keyboard) is now 100% finished and resolved.

I went into my local Subway shop this Thursday evening and Bingo, without a hitch, I got, and paid for, (with one of my Costco eGift cards) a foot long and some cookies.

More Subway Cookies

No! I am not “sold” on these eGift cards and I don’t plan to ever order any more UNLESS the offer is so financially beneficial that I can’t afford not to get one (or more).

One last thing before I end this discussion.

I paid Costco $179.97 for the 15 eGift Cards. The purchasing value of the 15 cards was $225. So each of the 15 eGift cards saved me $3.

And they can be used exactly like cash allowing me to also use Subway discount coupons.

The end ..

MEDICAL.. SLEEP APNEA..

Note at the very bottom the Total Usage of 7,000 hours

During the immediate past several years, I have averaged 10 hours of sleep each night. Since May of 2007 I have missed very few nights.

One interesting “side benefits” is the air that I breathe passes through two very fine filters. Every time (twice a month) I change filters I can’t help but notice the once white filters are now quite dark in color.

Scotch Tape?

Who hasn’t heard of and used it?

Scotch Tape Day is celebrated each year on January 31.

A problem arose when cars needed to be painted in two tones and sections needed to be taped off to do so. That’s how Richard Drew ended up creating scotch tape. Today, this versatile invention is used to stick anything and everything.

In the early 1920s, Richard Drew worked at the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company, which made sandpaper at the time. When he used to deliver sandpaper samples to auto body shops, he observed the inconvenience that car painters experienced when they had to paint two-tone color cars. At that time, surgical adhesive tapes or library glues were used to hold newspapers on cars when painting. However, when the newspapers were removed, residue remained and would rip the paint off when peeled off.

This inspired Drew to come up with a long-term and efficient solution. He went on to invent masking tape made out of crêpe paper, cabinetmaker’s glue, and glycerin. It adhered well to cars and came off easily without taking paint away. It was later marketed as Scotch Masking Tape.

Around the 1950s, the company introduced their mascot, “Scotty McTape”, who was declared a member of the Clan Wallace — the clan that William Wallace was from. The mascot started wearing red tartan and Wallace Hunting green plaid. However, he was jettisoned in the early 1970s. Nevertheless, to date, one can still find the green plaid on Scotch labels. Over the years, several manufacturers have started making transparent adhesive tape, however, many people still tend to call it Scotch Tape.

The invention of Scotch Tape, which can now be found in almost every home, resulted in Richard Drew being inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.

You can make small balls from Scotch Tape, cover them in fairy lights, and hang these around your house. It will provide a cozy atmosphere. You can even make Christmas tree ornaments.

During World War 2, the military wanted all Scotch Tape and, hence, sales were prohibited to civilians.

Scotch tape can be used for a wide variety of things. You can use it to repair things, mend books, apply nail paint, seal cracked eggs, seal cracked ceiling plaster, and so much more.

Whew-ie!!! Cap! YOU PERSEVERED!! (like the proud and determined Marine that you are!) And, I am delightfully and thoroughly exhausted as I read of your e-gift card experience. There’s only one other tech-geek that I know (ME!) that would so doggedly, with persistence and determination, trudge their way through such a nebulous and mysterious online offer such as this Subway/Costco adventure. And you did, my determined wise friend! And the gift…..NOM! NOM!…those delicious sammie’s! On a funny note: I remember when you were on your adventures to far-away places, sitting in a hot steamy room w/o AC, attempting to get your blog finished and posted (all before the internet connection/electrical power would go down!). And early on, you didn’t have the knowledge and experience of ‘auto-save’ or copy and paste. And fast-forward….Now you do! You’ve come a long ways, baby! lol

Michael I honestly don’t know how I survived those long ago adventures over in India. One place that the owner of an Internet Cafe allowed me to use HIS computer that was attached to batteries and totally independent of commercial power. So truly I did “have some help” from a Greater Power you would have to say. Thanks for all YOU have taught me Michael. I will soon come over so you can assist me with arranging the order of my download files on my computer. Cheerio Michael. Cap

I’m glad you were able to resolve the eCard problem. I love technology in so many ways but sometimes my brain doesn’t quite understand and I want to scream. Like yesterday. I had lunch at Chili’s with some former co-workers. We waited quite a while for the bill – not a problem as we had a lot to talk about. Finally, I asked for the bill and was told to use a small device on the table. It started with selecting an option on the screen and then a lot more choices. When the time arrived to insert my credit card, I could not figure out where it went and uttered at least one curse word right before asking an employee for help. All my companions were as confused as I was. Which is funny considering one of them was a former network administrator, another a former network analyst and a third is a current programmer. An aggravating end to an otherwise lovely time with friends.

Thank you for the story on Scotch tape. Now I know why they went with plaid. I do love that stuff and call it scotch tape no matter who made it.

Yes Oh Yes Kathleen. I can really relate to your experience with “paying your bill” via modern technology! Where do I do what here. Even in our Doctor’s Offices they hand me a “Tablet” and I then have to navigate it in terms of my appointment. Oh Sigh. Maybe it helps us all to know we are not alone with our “modern technology demons”. Smiling Cap
