APR 14, 25 ( 1 / 2 ).. SMART PHONES.. MY MAJOR DECISION..

Back in August of 2011, I started this website to share with my friends some of my International Travel Adventures.

Five years ago, due primarily to Covid-19, my International Travels stopped.

But I continued to write and publish Posts.

IF, yes the Big IF..

IF anyone of you who follow us gets “some tib-bit of information or thought or idea” from our efforts here, that help or benefit you personally, then that pleases both of us no end.

Here we go with our effort to actually write something that could possibly help or assist you.

Yesterday, almost “Out Of The Blue”, a very important idea just suddenly “Came To Me”.

And I want to share it with you here on babakaps.net.

SMART PHONES.. MY MAJOR DECISION..

IF you have a Smart Phone… IF you are active on the internet (websites, online financial accounts, email accounts, online medical and dental issues and appointments, ordering from Amazon and other firms, Face Book, etc etc, etc, this list could go on and on and on!) then you know about..

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a security process that adds an extra layer of security to your accounts by requiring two separate forms of verification, typically a password and a code sent to your phone or generated by an app. This makes it significantly harder for unauthorized individuals to access your accounts, even if they have your password.

Last November the 14th, down in the Casino at the Edgewater Hotel, in Laughlin, Nevada, I.. LOST.. MY.. SMART.. PHONE..

Yes.. Oh.. Yes.. I recovered it almost immediately thanks only to an unknown young lady who found it and turned it into the Casino Security Desk, and I had taped onto the back of my Smart Phone a phone number to call IF I lost it and it was found.

But beginning at that moment, and continuing right up to the present moment, I began to become more and more and MORE aware of how very important my Smart Phones are to my very well being.

NO Smart Phone. NO successful Two-Factor Authentication. NO Smart Phone, I can NOT access my websites, online financial accounts, email accounts, online medical and dental issues and appointments, ordering from Amazon and other firms, Face Book, etc etc, etc!

Do you want “Scary”? THAT, NO Smart Phone, is “Very Scary”!

Yes.. Yes Oh Yes Indeed.. Some few of my critical contacts have allowed me to enter several Smart Phone numbers to pick from during a Two-Factor Authentication! But others have given me only one choice of a phone number.

SMART PHONES.. MY MAJOR DECISION..

I have three, fully functional, Smart Phones.

One of the three is the most important of the three. So I need to be extremely careful not to lose Number One.

MY MAJOR DECISION..

Commencing yesterday, Sunday the 13th of April, 2025, as a result of the important idea that  just suddenly “Came To Me”..

Smart Phone Number One WILL LIVE, HERE IN OUR APARTMENT, OR IN OUR CONDO IN ANCHORAGE, and Smart Phone One will not go out of our residence unless we are moving or I have a real reason to have it with me.

By keeping Smart Phone One at home, I have drastically increased the odds that I will not lose him outside.

Smart Phones two and three are 100% fully capable of taking care of my business outside of our residence.

This is the very best we can do here. Share with you an idea, a concept, that we feel is very important to us.

We hope some of you actually read this and it gives you some thoughts that could assist you.

Yes! We know. Maybe many of you are not willing to have two Smart Phones but a second one could be vitally important!

I know I need a new phone. I may just get a second line and phone. You’ve made me think. I am heading to the phone store tomorrow. I’ll let you know what i come up with, but thank you.
    Hope your day is good.

Kit! As I wrestle with my own questions about the validity of our website, one that no longer does what it was set up to do, share my International Travels, your comment “made my day”. You read this Post, and it made you think about my proposition: I do NOT want to lose my Smart Phone that is the source of all of my Two-Factor Authentication security requests. That just one person really gave it some thought makes me feel I am helping others with our website. Smiles. Cap and Patti for sure.

Your posts are entertaining, often humorous and informative. You so often help us with your examples. Mayo for instance, and you know that story from our side here. Thank you! THANK YOU! Please keep posting!

P.S. Still deciding about the phone. 😊

Kit, just the fact that you gave some serious thought to protecting your Smart Phone and its role in Two-Factor Authentication is enough to keep me going. Thanks for your decade plus years of support Kit. Cap

Good choice to leave Ph# 1 at home. Just wanted to mention that most apps/web sites will allow you to setup not just one phone for 2-factor verification but also will allow you to have the option to have the code sent to your email. Of course the email link can be on a pc, laptop or whichever 2nd (or 3rd) phones would have to use an email app. Just sayin….
    There’s always an option!

Michael! Wow! Thanks for your comment: Good choice to leave Ph# 1 at home.

Here is “The Rub” with an email backup. My Yahoo and my Gmail email accounts now have Two-Factor Authentication requirements! So if I lose my Smart Phone, I am shut out of both my Yahoo and Gmail accounts as well! Michael! Losing ones Smart Phone is “Hell Waiting To Happen”. Cap and Patti
