JUN 17, 25 ( 1 / 2 ).. MASCOTS..
I asked Google? “What is a Mascot?”
Google replied: A person or thing that is supposed to bring good luck or that is used to symbolize a particular event or organization. “The team’s mascot was a young lion cub”.
Pretty simple, basic and to the point.
It does NOT say anything about Sports. So Mascots go beyond Sports.
BUT.. Mascots have been around sports for over 140 years. In the United States, the first mention of a sports mascot shows up in baseball in 1883. According to The Dickson Baseball Dictionary, a boy working for the team named “Chic” earned a reputation of bringing good luck to the players.
Why did I bring up Mascot?
The answer rests with NATIONAL DAY CALENDAR ..

NATIONAL MASCOT DAY..
National Mascot Day on June 17 celebrates the iconic mascot figures and the luck they bring to teams, fans, organizations and franchises.
A November 11, 1882, sports article in the London, England news paper, The Era, reported a football match between Middleborough Association and a newly formed team called La Mascotte. One player, Mr. W.E. Gregory, dressed up in costume. The article doesn’t describe his costume but does mention he earned the nickname Mascotte. The article also praises Gregory for his play on the field. Was he the first sports mascot?
Mascotte is a French word and a Mascotte is considered to be a woman or girl with mystic powers and the ability to bring good luck.

Cap and Patti
By The Way. Not that it matters one iota! I graduated a few years ago from High School on June the 17th, 1954. Seventy one (71) years ago! How can that be?
Yesterday afternoon / evening Patti and I watched Game 5 of the NBA Championship Series between the Indiana Pacers playing in Oklahoma City against the OKC Thunder. It was a “nail biter”. At one point, after leading by 18 points in the 3rd Quarter, suddenly and fairly early in the 4th and final Quarter, OKC led the Pacers by only 2 points. The game was actually much closer than the final score of OKC 120 – 109 Indiana Pacers indicates.
Thursday the series moves back to Indianapolis where Game 6 will be played. If OKC wins they are The Champions. If he Pacers win, then game 7 will be next Sunday June the 22nd in Oklahoma City at 8PM Eastern Time.
