JAN 18, 26 (2 / 2).. MICHIGAN DAY..

I really appreciate that daily, perhaps 50% of the time, Patti “scans” the NATIONAL TODAY Holidays before I do.

Having two sets of eyes checking seems to work well.

Patti did that today and after finishing Patti said to me.. “There is one NATIONAL TODAY Holiday that is an automatic choice.”

Taa -Daa..

Because I was born in Detroit, Michigan, I AM a Michigander (natives and residents of the U.S. state of Michigan).

Because I was raised and educated from birth through High School in Royal Oak (Greater Detroit Metro Area) Michigan I AM a Michigander.

Because I attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Main Campus, from September 1954 until the end of January 1958, I AM a Michigander.

Because I then attended Wayne State University, in Detroit, Michigan from September 1960 until I graduated in June of 1963, I AM a Michigander.

Then I basically left the State of Michigan to pursue my career in many other States and overseas.

So Patti was spot on, 100% correct. Michigan was an automatic NATIONAL TODAY Holiday for me.

Because I owned the home I was raised in (following my parents passing on) Patti has spent a fair amount of time with me all over Michigan including the Upper Peninsula.

MICHIGAN DAY..

The name is a French variant of the Ojibwe word ‘mishigami,’ which means ‘large water or lake.’

National Michigan Day is celebrated every year on January 18.

Michigan is the 10th largest state by population and 11th largest by area.

Michigan is fondly called ‘The Great Lakes State’ because it is bordered by four of the five Great North American Lakes — Michigan, Huron, Erie, Ontario, and Superior. 

The state is also the only one that’s spread across lower and upper peninsulas with over 60,000 ponds and inland lakes, and the Upper Peninsula is an important tourist destination thanks to its stunning natural vistas.

Michigan is famous for its automobile industry, home to the ‘Big Three’ which refers to the three largest automobile manufacturers — General Motors, Ford, and Fiat Chrysler. 

Michigan has more golf courses than any other state in the U.S.

Florida has the most golf courses in the U.S., with over 1,200, followed by California and Texas, driven by its warm climate, large population, and tourism, making it a major hub for both public and private golf facilities and communities.
