Like several recent days..

Only one Holiday today registered with us.

Thumb Appreciation Day is celebrated on February 18.

The thumb (pollex) is the short, thick first digit of the human hand, characterized by its high mobility and opposability to the other four fingers, which allows for grasping and manipulating objects. Unlike other fingers, the thumb has only two phalanges and a complex, saddle-shaped carpometacarpal (CMC) joint at its base, which provides unique rotational and opposing motions

Without our thumb, many things that are required for our daily survival would be nearly impossible to do.

Medical professionals agree it is one of the parts of our body that distinguishes us from other animals.

If we were to lose one of our fingers, the index finger is the best one to lose.

According to the American Medical Association, thumbs are so important that a complete amputation will result in a 40% impairment to the whole hand.

The thumb works together with other fingers to complete tasks, but it is not considered a finger but a digit.

The Medical Latin English word for thumb is ‘pollex.’

Thumbs can be rebuilt from any of our big toes.
