Yes indeed NATIONAL TODAY has many, many, Holidays.
Actually Holidays dominate the website.
BUT NATIONAL TODAY also has “Other Activities” as well.
Today, because of the absolutely, positively beautiful, enchanting song, “What I Did For Love”, from the Broadway Stage Play “A Chorus Line”, I wanted to acknowledge it here on February the 19th because today, I saw A Chorus Line on NATIONAL TODAY.
“What I Did For Love” is now playing over and over and over in my mind.

U. S. COAST GUARD..
My Dad was in the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary during World War II and for some time afterward.
The U.S. Coast Guard Reserve Birthday takes place on February 19 annually.
On June 23, 1939, Congress gave the Coast Guard Reserve a legislative mandate to use civilians. On February 19, 1941, the Auxiliary and Reserve Act of 1941 was passed. It designated the Reserve as a military branch, with the civilians forming the Auxiliary.
I can clearly remember going over with my Dad to the The United States Coast Guard Station, Belle Isle, located on Belle Isle, Michigan, in Detroit, on many occasions. His military job was inspecting ships and their cargo traversing the Detroit River going both North and South.

IWO JIMA..
In WWII, we invaded Iwo Jima Island because we needed a place close to Japan to launch airstrikes and for crippled planes to land there. There were three (3) airfields on Iwo Jima.
The five-week battle for Iwo Jima saw some of the fiercest and bloodiest fighting of the Pacific War!
When I served in the United State Marine Corps in the late 1950’s, I knew men who fought at Iwo Jima.
Patti’s Dad was on a Navy Ship off shore during the Battle of Iwo Jima and the raising of the United States flag.
On February 19, 1945, the American forces invaded the island of Iwo Jima and fought the strong Japanese Army for five weeks.
There were 70,000 U.S. combatants against roughly 20,000 Japanese defenders, most of whom were killed.

You know me so well. :-) When I saw National Chocolate Mint Day, I remembered I had some dark (85%) chocolate mints in my refrigerator. Then I saw my name and had to laugh. And now I am happily munching on said dark chocolate mints. Thank you for the reminder. I can’t believe I forgot about them.
