Where to begin?
Individually and together, Patti and I have traveled extensively.
We have travelled extensively throughout India, home to an incredible, vast, and diverse range of languages, with 121 major languages and an incredible number of mother tongues (dialects) spoken across the country.
We have also have traveled in several parts of China and quite a few places in Mongolia, nine months throughout Russian Siberia (we had a small flat in Irkutsk), not to mention Thailand, Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia, and Burma (Myanmar), so the two of us have considerable experience with the nuances, and the ins and the outs of languages other than English!
I lived for four years in West Germany and traveled extensively throughout Europe, home to approximately 225 to 300 indigenous languages!

There are 7,100 to 7,168 languages spoken in the world, with only around 4,000 having a written form.
This is a large number considering that some languages are better documented and more spoken than others. Many ethnic languages, some of which are still spoken by small groups today, will most likely be extinct in a few decades.

International Language Day is observed annually on February 21.
The world’s most ancient language is Sanskrit, also known as Devbhasha. It has been observed that all European languages are inspired by Sanskrit.
Some of the hardest languages to learn are Mandarin, German, Russian, Icelandic, Japanese, Hungarian, Korean, Arabic, Finnish, and Polish.
The Hungarian and Finnish languages have the most challenging grammar and can be difficult to grasp easily.
English is the most widely spoken language, with over 1.13 billion speakers, Mandarin Chinese has the most native speakers, with approximately 1.11 billion speakers.

Wow! I knew there were a lot of human languages here on Earth, but over 7000 spoken? Just wow! I’ve traveled to many places where I had to “try” the language spoken, and have always done so to be polite. My little French and Spanish always came in handy in addition to my own first language, English.
In my family we have 2 “adopted” sisters. Ann-Marie, my Swedish sister speaks 7 languages, and Remy, my Filipina sister speaks 5 languages. When youg, Ann-Marie and I traveled all over Europe, her with 7 languages flowing freely, and me with my 1 year of college French. Hahaha. I hung onto her coattails, but we sure had fun.
What languages will Bo be taught? Well, English is first, but i also teach all dogs signs with each command. They become important in field work. Love is getting better and better with signs at distances. Important because she has proved curious and sometimes a wanderer. I call and cross my arm across my chest for her to come. This technique I started with my Italian greyhounds, and with Angel going deaf, she still knew what I wanted from her. So, Bo will sign and know English. We can always expand from there!
Hey, great topic. Such a fascinating world we have, and languages have always been one of those wondrously, amazing human tools for being here.
Sam reminds us that cats know all languages. They just do. No need to speak it if you know it he says with a purr.

Living in Europe four years, I knew many of these multilingual speakers. They absolutely amazed me the way they.. often in the same sentence.. could go from language to language!! Cap and Patti
