EASTER SATURDAY.. 

No one knows the exact date the world began celebrating Easter, but we can all agree on one thing, Easter is indeed the oldest Christian festival the world knows. Historians and scholars believe the festival gained prominence in the latter half of the second century, and we have never looked back.

Religious celebrations have always been muted on this day since the early ages, given that it falls only one day after Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. People would even take part in Easter Vigils, in a callback to how Jesus Christ’s followers held a vigil after Good Friday. Because it was a period of mourning, most Church services were suspended on this day. The only service allowed was a baptism, as it was believed this ritual allowed people to get closer to God and offered salvation to the dying. And that’s why across the world, the Saturday before Easter was a popular day to baptize people.

INTERNATIONAL FIREWALK DAY..

Your answer: Patti, along with her college room mate, attended a weekend retreat led by Tony Robbins.

The Tony Robbins fire walk is a signature, high-intensity exercise at his Unleash the Power Within (UPW) seminars, where participants walk barefoot across a 10-foot bed of hot, glowing coals. Designed to help participants “break through” fear and limiting beliefs, it uses the metaphor of overcoming physical danger to foster a resilient, “can-do” mindset. While often safe, it has resulted in burn injuries.

It was optional. Patti chose NOT to  participate!

International Firewalk Day takes place on the first Saturday of April every year.

The practice of walking on fire has existed for several thousand years.

People all throughout the world take part in activities known as “Firewalks,” which, to put it simply, involve ambling barefoot over a bed of hot stones or embers. This ritual is frequently performed as a rite of passage, as a test of a person’s courage and mental fortitude, or in religious contexts, as a proof of one’s faith. Social theorists have argued that the popularity of intense collective events such as firewalking continues to grow because they foster socialization. 

Whatever the reasons for engaging in firewalking, it’s clear that this discipline has captured people’s emotions and imaginations and is here to stay.

 International Carrot Day, is celebrated on April 4.

You’ll never catch us without a pack of carrots in the crisper and that’s because this vegetable is not only highly affordable with a long shelf life, but is also exceedingly beneficial for our health.

California is responsible for 85% of the carrots that U.S. citizens purchase in grocery stores across the country.

Last year! We actually got two very enthusiastic comments about the Rats.

Oh I grew up with the greatest little rat, Harvey! Black and white with the cutest nose and whiskers. He’d sleep nuzzled in my neck for hours while I’d read books. Fun memories of a sweet, smart kittle critter we had for about 5 years if I recall correctly.  Kit

I have never had to deal with rats “in the wild” thankfully, but I did encounter some while in college in my psychology courses. I had hamsters growing up so I wasn’t too concerned until I noticed that they had long snake like tails. That ratcheted up some serious anxiety as apparently I was snake phobic. (The snake phobia hasn’t really improved-I was screaming at a very long one crossing the street and heading towards my house recently. Yes, probably just a gopher snake but my anxiety wasn’t listening.) Back to the rats. One course had us putting rats in mazes and teaching them various things. They were fast learners and very sweet once my anxiety was under control. One peed on me and I didn’t bat an eye. The other course was pharmacological and required us to inject drugs into the poor critters and observe their behavior. I made it through one session and had to drop the class. My heart wouldn’t allow me to do that to the poor innocent creatures, especially after they had charmed me in the mazes. I still feel guilty for the one time. He got a stimulant. While some people pay good money to get that high, he didn’t ask for it. UGH. Nowadays when I think of rats, I think of the Disney character Ratatouille. Cute, adorable and a good cook.
