FEB 18, 18 .. AH YES .. AGING AND NEW EXPERIENCES .. ANOTHER FIRST FOR ME

Today Patti finished the International Woman’s Conference being held here in Phoenix, Arizona.

Last Thursday I dropped Patti off at the Sheraton Grand Hotel right in the heart of downtown Phoenix. So for the past several days (parts of Thursday and today Sunday and all day Friday and Saturday) I have been supporting Patti ‘from-afar’ ( read : via text messages and phone calls).

This (Sunday) morning, at 9AM, I drove down to the venue (The Sheraton Grand Hotel), parked our truck, and was able to successfully meet-up with Patti to get the key to her room. There were 3,615 women in attendance so (men were not allowed to attend or even be around conference activities) for us to successfully meet-up was fun to pull-off.

The below photo gives you some idea of the size of the Sheraton Grand here in downtown Phoenix.

At 12 noon the conference was finished and again Patti and I were able to successfully meet-up.

What a chore getting up to Patti’s room was. Literally thousands of people vying for elevators. I pulled this old trick : Take a down elevator to the basement and then ride back up. Same when we came down. We took an up elevator and then rode back down.

AH YES .. AGING AND NEW EXPERIENCES .. ANOTHER FIRST FOR ME

The scene is set : Patti and I are out in front of the hotel with her bags and the time has come for us to get our truck, load her things up, and return to our motel.

Suddenly I realized that : I did not really know where I parked our truck. I thought I knew, but I didn’t clearly remember.

So I said to Patti, “I am going to leave you here. I don’t want you to have to endure the challenge of me finding our truck. You wait here.”

So out and off went Baba Kaps to the land that knows no time, down a trail no man could conquer, to a cliff no man could climb!

I walked several blocks up the street (North 3rd Street) immediately in front of the hotel entrance. No truck. Then I walked across (Taylor Street) to another parallel street (North 2nd Street) and up I walked. No truck.

“OH COME ON CAPTAIN .. (Gullible screams) You want us to believe this?”

I said to God, “God, I am lost? Any ideas?”

God did NOT do a thing. I did NOT hear one single word from God.

BUT ..

I saw a fully uniformed Phoenix Policeman riding a bicycle. I hailed him down!

“Sir. I am lost. I can’t find my truck. It is a 1998 GMC Suburban, black, Alaska license plates 1POLAR.”

So out and off went the Phoenix Policeman on his bicycle to the land that knows no time, down a trail no man could conquer, to a cliff no man could climb!

“Sir. I found it. Go South down North 2nd street.”

“Yeah Gullible. I know. More of MY GOD STUFF.”

“God. Oh God of Abraham. Creator of Heaven and Earth. THANKS!”

Some day I’ll tell you the story of “losing” our vehicle in the parking lot of Carr’s grocery during a blizzard on Christmas eve. Ken had just been released from the hospital and was not quite back to a good cognitive state. This happened after I was stuck in in a hospital elevator by myself for an hour and a half.

These days, I still lose my vehicle in parking lots.

Too funny, losing your vehicle in a parking lot. Makes me feel better BUT the Bicycle riding policeman sure was a big help. Being stuck in an elevator anywhere (hospital or elsewhere) would be a difficult challege for Patti.
