DEC 14, 22 .. PATTI’S MEDICAL PROCEDURE YESTERDAY .. SO FAR .. SO GOOD ..

For What It’s Worth .. The below Post is fairly complicated and complex. IF you do not want to read it in detail, please go the Post Script at the bottom of this Post and find a link to Gullible’s newest Post, Chapter 6, about her 2022 African Safari !!

This Post is being written on ..

Tuesday, December 13th

Today, December 13th, is the number one reason why we are here at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. Oh Yes !! We are also going to “winter” down here in Lake Havasu City but NOT in Phoenix. The doctor who has been treating Patti for her Barrett’s Esophagus, will perform two routine procedures, an endoscopy and a colonoscopy, one following the other today.

Do all of you want a chuckle?

I just asked Patti : “Which did they do first ?”

Then immediately, as in instantly, I said : “Of course you don’t remember ! You were out-cold (anesthetized) weren’t you !” Patti just smiled and said “Yes !”

I am not going into the details here but the prep for a colonoscopy is really a bore.

What is stuff you drink for prep of colonoscopy? The most commonly prescribed bowel prep formulas use a polymer-based laxative known as polyethylene glycol 3350 (PEG).

We arose, very early for us, at 7:30AM so Patti could begin the final dosage session of the bowl prep at 8AM. Patti’s check in time was 11:30AM. In good time, out and off to the Mayo Clinic we went at 10:30AM.

Patti was checked in at 11:25AM and shortly thereafter she disappeared into the preparation area. The Mayo Clinic is an on-time do-it operation.

After Patti had completed her check-in, I had to check-in because, here at the Mayo Clinic, it is ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY that each patient have a “driver” to take the patient home. My duties were explained to me in detail (we’ve been through this too many times to count anymore) and I was given the below paper.

Patti’s number today (see the above photo) in the system was : 2000 501 731890

Focus on the last digit 90.

In the very large waiting area, there is an illuminated patient status board ..

And on the above status board, shows the status of many ( read : MANY ) patients.

In addition to the above, status board in the waiting area, those of us with smart phones can sign up to get a patient’s progress via a text message. I certainly signed up for this option !!

I was waiting perhaps 30 minutes when I received the below text message.

A staff member came out to the waiting area and escorted me to Patti’s room in the preparation area.

I sat quietly with Patti, holding her hand, and visiting for almost a full hour !! It was a very nice experience. Then Patti’s Doctor came in for a brief visit and it was time for me to leave Patti in God’s and in the Mayo Clinic’s hands.

A few photos of the patient tracking board. Have you all remembered Patti’s tracking number ?

2000 501 731890 ..

Because of the number of patients, the easiest way to find a patient is to FOCUS on the last two digits of the patient’s number. For Patti this was 90. I assisted quite a few others to find their patients. Most all of us were Senior Citizens !!

Now for some photos of the status board.

Patti is in the procedure room.

In the above photo, you can’t read that Patti is in the procedure room (starting at the bottom of the board, in the left hand column, and going up) the first orange entry. Below is a close-up look. Focus on the last digit 90

Another photo of the status board.

Again, you can’t read it in the above photo. Patti’s medical team is preparing for the procedure (starting at the bottom of the board and going up) the first yellow entry. Below is a close-up look. Focus on the last digit 90.

In the two below photos, you can see the two different status boards. One will be visible for 30 seconds and then the other one flashes onto the screen for it’s 30 seconds.

Patti’s procedure ( on the green line) is in progress. Look for the last digit 90.

Well the procedure is over ! Patti is waking up. From the top down, in the left hand column, the second blue line. Look for the last digit 90.

One last look at what the above text messages looked like on my smart phone.

BOTTOM LINE : At 11:20PM Tuesday night, Patti is doing just great. When I took our truck in to the Chevrolet dealer across the street (West Bell Road) Patti walked with me back to our Motel 6. Basically both the endoscopy and the colonoscopy are commonly performed with no after effects. But one never knows. The Doctor took several biopsy specimens that are being tested. We certainly hope they are benign and not malignant !

Thanks so very much for following us and for your prayers for Patti.

Still Smiling and Still Standing ..

Whew! Glad procedure is done, and Patti came through like a champ! Hope you’re enjoying nice weather. It’s been blizzard conditions with lots of snow the past 2 days, and it should be for 2 more. Pretty much everything is shut down in my town. Stay well! Oh, and Amy went back to the Bay for break with another Dean’s List semester under her belt. All A’s!

Yes Kit we ARE enjoying the nice weather here. In the low 40’s at night and nice days in the high 50’s. Lots of sunshine AND of all things, some real rain as well. Wow, Amy getting all A’s Kit. You must be proud indeed. Smiles Cap and Hugs from Patti.

That’s wonderful news. Sounds like Mayo really has it together. I love how they let you know what’s happening. I hope you have a few enjoyable days before any more procedures.

Kathleen, Mayo DOES have it together. An amazing medical facility. We now hope the biopsys are negative. Thanks so very much for your comment Kathleen. Right now we are finished with procedures .. Cap and Patti
