MAR 26, 23 .. SUDDENLY DOMINOS BEGAN TO FALL .. ARE YOU SITTING DOWN ?
Saturday the 25th of March 2023
It is late in the evening.
Not one single, solitary friend in Alaska, not one mind you, has said one word, in terms of our returning to the piles of snow and weather in the 30s in the day and 20s at night, to support our returning North to Alaska next Saturday (April Fool’s Day) April the 1st. Just the opposite. Many, if not most of them, are saying : “Why don’t you stay put down there in Arizona and come up in May!”.
The issues, The problems are several. I’ll call them Dominos.
The MAJOR ISSUE : We have told our landlord, we have promised him, we have in fact given him “our solemn word” that we will be out of here tomorrow so that he can rent our apartment to a visiting nurse who is coming down here to assist the local (drastically understaffed) Hospital. Now A Promise Made Is A Debt Unpaid! And I had “promised him” we’d be out of our apartment March the 26th.
The OTHER ISSUE : We booked our return flight North to Alaska several months ago, well in advance. Thus we got on a direct flight (one a week I think) from Las Vegas to Anchorage instead of Las Vegas to Seattle, Seattle to Anchorage. We also booked extra-leg-room seating ($120 per person) which is getting harder and harder to get. Finally we had no idea of “our options” to change our reservation. “Back-in-the-day” you had a window of only 24 hours if you wanted to make changes to a reservation. After that 24 hours expired, you were “charged considerable money” for any changes. Covid-19 wrought havoc with that position of the airlines and made them far more flexible allowing (if you contacted Covid-19) total freedom to make “spur-of-the-moment” changes even cancellations with NO penalties.
So IF we were to consider a change to our flight, we had no idea of the consequences. Or when and if we could get onto another direct flight.
The INERTIA OF MAKING A MAJOR CHANGE : Everything is in place why change things.

The FIRST DOMINO
We had set up a visit with our landlord this afternoon to discuss our lease agreement and monthly payments, etc. After about 20 minutes of small talk, we really like both our landlord and his wife, we got down to business. We gave him a check to cover several months in advance.
And? For the very life of me, I am not able to clearly recall what led to him telling us that he (after having said previously that he had a visiting nurse coming here to our apartment) had no one prepared to move in to our place and further he and his wife were going on a one week vacation out of town and he did not take new tenants into a property when he was out of town.
I said : Did you just say you have no tenant lined up to move into our apartment here?
He confirmed this to be accurate.
I said : IF so, this means that Patti and I do not have to vacate our apartment?
He confirmed this as well.
The FIRST DOMINO FELL !

Later, after the above visit with our landlord, Patti and I drove over to see our friend Michael and spend this evening with him. We watched the final minutes of the March Madness game in which UCONN beat the daylights out of poor Gonzaga.
Then I drove to our local Circle K and we introduced Michael (who had never enjoyed one) to a Circle K Froster.
Michael loved the Blue Raspberry Froster.

And we came home. And we called Alaska Airlines.
And? THE SECOND DOMINO FELL !
Yes. It took some time. Yes it took some doing.
BUT IT’S A DONE DEAL.
WE WILL RETURN TO ALASKA

Sunday March the 26th 2023
Today, as planned, we are driving to Laughlin, Nevada. We will stay three nights (tonight Sunday, tomorrow Monday and Tuesday) at the Edgewater, visit Ginny and Tom, and return here to Lake Havasu City, Arizona, next Wednesday.
And? We will continue to enjoy the fine weather here.
To say that we two are Smiling BIG Smiles is truly a vast understatement!!

HA HA HA HA!!! YOU ARE A MASTER DOMINO PLAYER. YOU WILL BE VERY HAPPY IT TURNED OUT LIKE THIS.
Of course, you won’t ever realize it will you because you won’t be here to experience it.
YOU, yes YOU Gullible, were the first (of what became several others as well) to “Suggest that we stay put here in Arizona for another month.” As I outlined in the Post, because we had truly committed to being out of our apartment today March 26th so our landlord could rent it to a visiting nurse, we were stuck because we two did not like the idea of then having to find, and then start over, in another motel, at some expense, for another month. The micro-second that the Domino fell (we could just “stay put” here) then it was “contact Alaska Airlines” and “check out” our options. Alaska Airlines then became another total “unknown” Domino. Had that option (changing our flight) been very expensive, perhaps with no direct flight from Las Vegas to Anchorage, no comfort seating, we would be returning next Saturday on “April Fools Day”. We two are truly Smiling BIG Smiles .. Cap
I suspect a horse shoe or a rabbits foot is somewhere in that apartment.

Yay! Miracles abound!! Thank you, dear God, for allowing us many more precious moments with our beloved, inspirational, and fun…I mean, how much more fun can it be than to sit down with Cap, Patti, me and Little Bit and either dine on Singapore Rice Noodles, or to watch the March Madness together as family? And to be introduced to Circle K’s ‘Froster’s?’ lol
Ain’t life funny when we embrace ‘expectations’ is the answer to all of our ‘problems’ it seems that life unfolds exactly the way it is meant to be? Indeed, last night I said to you and Patti: “We’re family. I just wish I could keep you here for more time together!’ And, BOOM! Our Lord was listening! Yippy-Skippy! Hallelujah! Amen, brothers and sisters!
