SEP 20, 23 .. TAKING A “DAY OFF” IN FAIRBANKS

Today is : Wednesday, September the 20th, 2023

Yes! We are safely in Fairbanks. We now plan to head to Manley Hot Springs tomorrow, Thursday the 21st.

It literally took both Patti and me almost “all the energy we have” to get packed up Monday and yesterday and then drive North to Fairbanks yesterday.

As a result of being “exhausted” from the trip, we are staying two nights (Tuesday and Wednesday) in Fairbanks, not the one night we had planned to stay here.

“Taking a day off” does not mean we are going to be idle and just “lay around”. We are meeting-up-with, and visiting, several friends who date back over 30 years. We also have some must-do shopping as well.

Sometimes I think I should “double date” some of our Posts. This post is dated, and formally published, on September 20th 2023. But this Post is really all about yesterday, Tuesday, the 19th of September!

So the date should be, and truly is : SEP 19-20, 2023.

The drive from Anchorage, Alaska, North to Fairbanks, Alaska.

Wow! Ice on our windshield and side windows this morning!

A closer look at the place (see above) that I scraped clean on our windshield.

Looking out from my drivers seat inside our Suburban.

The right passenger’s side window.

Yes indeed Captain! Winter IS coming. Bet on it!

About two hours passed.

“Wait one minute Captain! Will you just look below at the absolutely, positively, spectacular day that I brought you!” (sign me) Autumn 2023

Out and off, heading North, Patti and I drove.

“You and Patti want beautiful Captain? Just look what I brought you!” (sign me) Autumn 2023)

“Oh come on now Autumn! It was I, Upcoming Winter, that sprinkled some snow on the mountains. Thus it was I, Upcoming Winter, that made the beautiful photos below!”

What on earth can I say?

Safely into Fairbanks. We love our 7 Gables Inn and Suites.

Monday Evening I told Patti : “I will be thrilled beyond belief IF we are out of our Condo and on the road to Fairbanks by 12 noon tomorrow!”

First we had a stunningly beautiful day (read : It was NOT dark and raining). I was up at 5:03 am this morning.

VOILA! SUCCESS! At 11:51am we pulled out of our Condo and headed for Fairbanks! We arrived at our 7 Gables Inn at 7pm. We drove 360.9 miles.

Never. Never Ever, in twenty five (25) years of making this drive, have I made it in less than 8 hours.

We took three “meaningful” stops of 15 to 20 minutes. Talkeetna Junction, The Alaska Veteran’s Memorial and Cantwell.

THE ALASKA VETERANS MEMORIAL

We had one, stop, shut off your engine, and wait, construction delay. Why did I set a record for the time today’s trip took. I have no answer.

CANTWELL, ALASKA

The size and length of Alaska Tractor Trailer Rigs is something!

The time has come the Walrus Said for me to “Call This A Wrap”!

Thanks to each of you who have the time, the patience and the energy to follow along with us.

Cap and Patti

By The Way. At around 2pm, Patti took the wheel of our 1999 Chevrolet Suburban and drove from Talkeetna Junction to Cantwell a two hour drive.

I, having been up since 5:03am lay down on the comfortable mattress we have in the back of our truck and (off and on) rested and slept soundly. I did get up when Patti stopped at the Alaska Veterans Memorial. Then back to resting I went.

“Captain, what a Post  for an 87 year old senior citizen to pull off after a very long day!”

Safe and happy travels! Glad to hear you’re going to Manley Hot Springs.
Elk are in rut now here in the Hills. We’re going to go search to hear them bugle.

Thanks for your support and comment Kit. So the Elk have a verbal call to mate. Ah the wonders of nature never cease to amaze us. This visit will be our Swan song to Manley Kit. Smiles.. Cap and Patti
