SEP 24, 23 .. MANLEY HOT SPRINGS.. SPECIAL FRIENDS.. AND MUD

Today.. As you read this Post..

You are going to see that it IS a very, VERY, long Post. Yes Indeed! This Post “got away from me” big time! But I didn’t want some of the events of the past several days to “get dated” with the passage of time heading into next week!

Also, on my own smart phones, the photos seemed to have some difficulties in loading. So try to be patient. Thanks.

It is Sunday, the 24th of September 2023.

Today, Patti and I will drive South from Fairbanks back to Anchorage.

We will drive 360 miles in, give or take, seven to eight hours.

This will be the conclusion of this 6-day road trip (Tuesday the 19th to Sunday the 24th) from Anchorage to Manley Hot Springs (through Fairbanks) and home to Anchorage.

It is far too early to “wrap this trip up” because we have a long trip ahead of us today and .. Please Sit Down .. Who knows what could happen!

See you tomorrow in Anchorage, God and the Good Lord willing.

Saturday the 23rd of September 2023.

We slept until just after 12 noon. Yes indeed, we both were very tired from the week to this point.

After we got up and enjoyed breakfast, we visited dear and very special friends that date back twenty five (25) years! Art and his mother Billie were INSTRUMENTAL in my coming North to Fairbanks in June of 1998. The trip when I purchased our Manley Cabin.

Billie’s Backpackers Hostel is a legend for world travelers who come to Fairbanks.

“Patti, do you think that we were imagining that Lin’s Singapore Rice Noodles last Wednesday were some of the best we have ever enjoyed!”

“Cap let’s go try them again!”

The Verdict Is In! : Yes! Lin’s Singapore Rice Noodles are among the very best we have ever enjoyed any place in the world!

Tonight, Saturday, September the 23rd 2023.

Last Wednesday, September the 20th 2023.

Then we “wrapped Saturday up” with an excellent meeting (our second this week) at the Fairbanks Alano Club. Some friends there I date back with twenty five years!

Now, where do I go?

I will continue with a very special moment during our visit to Manley, Thursday and Friday.

ONE VERY SPECIAL MOMENT FOR ME OF THE ENTIRE TRIP

All of you know about my one full year streak of posting daily here on dotnet without missing one single day.

Thanks to our friends Bea and Terry in Manley, I was able to use Bea’s computer in their home that has an internet connection through a telephone line.

Bea does NOT have WiFi so I could not use my own laptop. Thus, thanks to Bea, this past Thursday, on September the 21st, I was able to continue my streak into a second year. This was important to me because, after not missing a daily Post for a full year, I DID NOT break my streak immediately the very next day. So it did NOT become : One And Done!

Bea and Terry with Patti.

Below is a picture of me with Bea.

AGAIN! THANKS SO VERY MUCH BEA AND TERRY!

Now I will show you some of the challenges that we encountered.

MUD!

In my Post last Friday, SEP 22, 23, I spoke of dealing with Mud. How about the below project!

Below is what the back of our Suburban looked like from road mud.

With God and the Good Lord AND Patti as my witness, the below cleaning project took me one full hour. I myself was shocked when Patti told me. I had to go back and forth, up and down stairs, into the Manley Bath House to keep getting water to wash the back of our Suburban.

At Ptarmigan Pass on our way to Manley.

After we arrived IN Manley.

First thing that I do is to clean the door lock key opening.

So IF I want to get into the back of the Suburban I am able to do so.

Now I begin to clean the very top of the rear doors.

And down I proceed!

I’ve now cleaned the rear door windows. Yes indeed! It is starting to “look good”.

Down, down I proceed.

VOILA !!

The below photo was taken Friday afternoon en route back to Fairbanks. We were on the “Haul Road” and had completed the 80 mile stretch of unpaved road into Manley. It was a nice day and look at the back of our Suburban! It’s still clean!
