FEB 23, 26.. RATIONALIZATION DAY to me means PROCRASTINATION.. and Taa Daa .. GULLIBLE!!
National Rationalization Day?
To rationalize simply means to hide one’s shortcomings or faults by making excuses for them.
This is kind of a peculiar holiday that allows, or even encourages, some degree of laidbackness for just one day.
I read the above about some degree of laidbackness and I immediately translated it to mean..
Procrastination.
Humm?
Because (just ask Patti) I tend to be a “Do it NOW!” person.
I am curious about this NATIONAL TODAY Holiday.
No one can do everything NOW! So many activities have to be delayed.
As a result, I think almost all of us do some Procrastinating.
OK ! Let’s see what Google has to say:
Procrastination is the act of unnecessarily delaying tasks despite knowing potential negative consequences, driven by emotional regulation issues, fear of failure, perfectionism, or feeling overwhelmed. It leads to guilt, anxiety, lower productivity, and, in severe cases, health issues. Overcoming it involves self-compassion, breaking tasks into small steps, and managing distractions.
Hello NATIONAL TODAY ..
Here we go..

National Rationalization Day is celebrated every year on February 23.
It begins with : Think about the reasons or excuses you gave for not getting something done (procrastinaion) and rationalize them!
Have you ever unconsciously, or consciously, justified postponing a task or sneaked another snack from the fridge and delighted in its guilty pleasure? Are you late for work? Rationalize that! Did you miss a deadline? Rationalize that too! Take a break from the stress and get a little soft on yourself. National Rationalization Day is here for all that.
How does one stop rationalizing? Lay off the excuses and just do the task. If you can’t, admit it to yourself… and do it anyway unless you can legitimately delegate it. Own your responsibilities and come to understand why you dislike the task, what you can do to improve how you feel, and implement those solutions.

Hi Kit we are so happy you got a chuckle out of seeing your Bo at the bottom of the post. We also got a chuckle out of it! Cap and Patti
I love how Google included self-compassion in breaking the procrastination cycle. In college, I would procrastinate on writing papers. I am not sure why I had such a fear of doing them. I received good grades when I did them. I think the strategy of breaking it into smaller tasks would have helped.
As an adult, I procrastinate doing my taxes. Again, I don’t know why. I very rarely owe money. And even if I do owe them, I have the funds to pay. Maybe fear of messing it up? But my taxes are usually very simple. Only a couple of years where there were parts that were more difficult.
I will try Google’s advice this year.
Kathleen I personally am right with you on the taxes. I too procrastinate with them even though I don’t owe any because I do on line estimated payments! Go figure I sure can’t! Cap
