FEB 27, 26.. CHILI.. PROTEIN..

Chili !

National Today, this is a “No Brainer” Holiday for me especially!

Not so for Patti who does not eat Red Meat.

On February 27, we celebrate National Chili Day.

It is believed that immigrants from the Canary Islands introduced Chili after settling in San Antonio, Texas, in the 1700’s.

1977 The Texas legislature declares chili as its official dish.

Chili is the ultimate people-pleaser and it’s also the ultimate cook-off dish.

There are sometimes fierce debates about what makes true chili! Beans or no Beans? I prefer Red Chili Beans in my Chili!

Ground Beef or hand chopped pieces of Beef? I prefer hand chopped pieces of Beef.

Don’t talk to me about “White Chili” made with Chicken!

PROTEIN??

Oh Come On Captain?? Protein??

Yes Oh Yes!!

During one of our recent medical appointments, our Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, after reviewing some of Patti’s blood tests said to Patti..

“Your Protein is low. You need to add some Protein to your Diet!”

So we have added Cottage Cheese to our meals.

National Protein Day, is celebrated on February 27.

Our bodies crave Protein, one of the body’s most basic building blocks. It’s a “macronutrient”.

Protein helps develop bones, skin, cartilage, and blood while promoting weight loss and increased muscle mass.

Americans’ favorite protein-source is the humble chicken.

Nutrition experts recommend around 46 grams per day for women, and 56 for men. But age, activity level, muscle mass, physical goals, and your current health all play an important role.

I’ve never thought about putting black olives on my chili. Putting black olives on my grocery list for the next time I make chili. I will be having chili for lunch today, chili con carne (I believe that means chili with beans?) And I hope I remember to add some cilantro. I love cilantro and never thought about adding it to my chili. I’m not particular about the meat that goes into my chili. I will eat whatever I have available, including white chili. Yum!
