WET MACULAR DEGENERATION (WetMD) .. August 11th, 2026..
It sure helps when one has “Good Chemistry” with a Doctor that is putting needles into one’s eyes !!
Avastin is a medication that is commonly used to treat Wet MD.. Avastin was the one, Avastin was the only, medication that was used for my first fourteen (14) eye injections beginning on Friday, March the 8th 2024.
When I came back to Anchorage this past April 2026, I met with my Anchorage Opthamologist on Tuesday, May the 19th, to receive my 15th eye injection.
In the above Post, down toward the end, I wrote that my left eye was having issues with returning to normal after being injected with a “New-to-me Medication” called Vabysmo. Where oh where do they get these names of medicines!!
For reasons that I do not understand, after an exceptional visit to my eye doctor last Tuesday the 19th, my recovery from the 15th injection in my left eye has been far more difficult than it has been after any of the other injections. The medicine injected was Vabysmo, a different and new-to-me medication. Finally, after 1 – 1/2 days, and resting my eyes for long naps and flooding them with eye drops, my left eye is actually beginning to feel pretty good.
On Tuesday, the 30th of June, I received my 16th eye injection. For the second consecutive time, my left eye was injected with Vabysmo. Again, as with the first injection of Vabysmo, my left eye “did not like the Vabysmo”.
I also discussed this with my Lake Havasu City ophthalmologist who said.. “Vabysmo is a medication that I also use. It is a step up in strength. No problem.”
Now we come to today’s August 11th appointment.
I have been discussing this with Patti and I told Patti that “I am going to question the use of the Vabysmo.”
When my Doctor walked into the procedure room I said to him.. “Doctor I really need to discuss something with you.”
“Sure no problem.”
And then I launched my discussion about Avastin and Vabysmo.
I was ready for a negative reply to the effect “I am your Doctor and this is what I am recommending etc etc etc.”
“Cap! No problem!! I will inject Avastin today! We will see in 6 weeks how your eye is doing!”
It sure helps when one has “Good Chemistry” with a Doctor that is putting needles into one’s eyes !!
By the way. Patti’s record remains 100% perfect. Dating way back to Friday, March 9th, 2024, so far, for 17 injections, Patti has not ever taken one Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie peek as the Doctors have been injecting anesthetics (2 injections) and the actual medications!
Just having Patti in the room is a great comfort.
