MAR 5, 23 .. A (very) FEW OF YOU ASKED FOR A SYNOPSIS OF OUR MAYO CLINIC VISIT

Saturday, March the 4th

First off, all of you had better believe that today Patti and I checked out the one day HAVASU DEUCES SHOW at Rotary Park here in Lake Havasu City.

I snapped “in the neighborhood” of 100 photos.  Now to put them together in a blogspot post.

The time has come the Walrus said to talk of many things..

The time has come to “wrap up” the past  two week visit to Phoenix and the Mayo Clinic with a synopsis of our appointments.

Several of our followers have asked questions about our visit because we have discussed some medical issues but did not follow through with results and explanations thereof.

Unless YOU are one of the very few who wanted more details, you very well may want to just delete this before reading further.

Basically I went to the Mayo Clinic for an annual physical examination. Simple, straight forward, no major medical issues to discuss. I had NO ear issues and I had NO swallowing issues that I wanted to discuss.

Well after I had scheduled this routine annual physical, life happened.

The number one issue of interest and concern seems to be..

My Ear Issue

My Ear Issue Bottom Line .. Now, this instant, my left ear is fine. I can hear “normally for me” and have absolutely NO pain of any ilk.

If you want further details please read on.

Saturday night January 28th, I went to bed feeling just fine. I had never ever, in my entire life, had any ear issues. If you want more details please click onto the below link.

In my February 7th post (see the below link) I noted that I had an absolutely inexplicable spiritual experience and my hearing returned.

I saw a local family medicine doctor on February the 7th. Unfortunately, being a family medicine Doctor and not an ear/nose/throat specialist, he did not have answers to my ear challenges. Yes he saw the ear drum is covered with dried blood so he could not observe it (nor could the Emergency Room Doctor Monday the 30th of January). To the extent he could, he removed some dried blood from my ear drum. He was pleased and enthusiastic that I have an upcoming appointment with the ear/nose/throat (ENT) clinic at the Mayo Clinic down in Phoenix the 22nd of February.

Now we jump ahead to the Mayo Clinic phase of this ear issue. First I had to contact my Mayo Clinic general practitioner. She gave me a referral to the ENT (Ear Nose Throat) department. The below link discussed this appointment.

So this “will be it” for my ear issue.

My Swallowing Issue

This topic “came to life” during an appointment with my Lake Havasu gastroenterologist when he offhandedly and casually asked me if I was having trouble swallowing. I said “No I was not having trouble swallowing.” This is not true because I am indeed having some swallowing issues and I decided to bring this up with my Mayo Clinic gastroenterologist.

This led to three medical appointments.

Two on Thursday February the 24th the first at  10:15am .. Neurology Pathology Consultation, Department of Neurology and the second at 11:30am Fluoroscopic Swallow Function Exam, Department of Radiology.

The third appointment was for the Upper Endoscopy on February the 28th.

As of this moment : The Upper Endoscopy seems to have relieved the swallowing issue. However my throat is still not 100% “out of the woods”. Yes it still bothers me to swallow BUT slowly it is getting less and less bothersome. I’d say this instant I am 85% of the way “back-to-normal”.

My Physical Examination

No matter my feelings about myself (balancing concerns, short term memory issues etc bla-bla-bla) all of the Mayo Clinic Doctors continue to say to me : I hope when I am (if I get there) 86 years old I am in as good a shape as you are!!

An Update on Patti’s Appointments

Patti here now .. My appointments were basically follow-ups at Mayo clinic.  However, my allergy doctor who treats my mild asthma just happened to want to check my ankles.  Go figure. So, I just ‘happened” (!) to tell her I had been concerned about swelling in my lower legs and ankles for about a year, had mentioned it to my general doctor in Alaska, and that doctor just seemed to not be concerned.  THIS doctor WAS concerned when she checked my lower legs and ankles and gave me a referral to see a Mayo Clinic cardiologist.  The cardiology department wanted/ordered a blood test and an EKG before scheduling me with a doctor. I had those two tests done there at Mayo immediately. Then waited, and waited, and waited each day for a promised call from cardiology to be scheduled for an appointment.  That never came while we were there in Phoenix, so I will now see it I can schedule a video appointment. I had received an online report on both the blood work and the EKG. The blood work was fine. The EKG showed ‘something’ going on with certain ‘messages’ being sent to or received by my heart .. difficult for me to understand just reading the report, so, I WILL follow up. That was it for me this winter with Mayo Clinic, a great place to be getting care!!

    Well, Cap,
I’ve read all the synopsis of your appointments. Here I can can see all your courage to meet anything to might be said by your doctors and great support of your POSITIVE attitude.
And if you CAN WORK OUT such energy to LIVE despite all the “issues” I should study your experience of “Working out and working forward” and follow you through….
God bless you, Cap and Patti ♥ My warmest hugs to you both

Thank You Olga always, and in All Ways, for your continuing support and encouragement. It’s a case of : You MUST want to look, to the best of your ability to do so, at the positive side of things. Patti does a much better job than I do but I continue to look towards the sunny side of things. Call it emotional sobriety. Again you have to want it. Smiles .. Cap and Patti
